Stairs off new kitchen/dining room. Fire issues and building control.

Redesigning two rooms into one by taking down the wall between the kitchen and dining room. We will be putting in an RSJ.
At present stairs rise from a raised hall area with another two steps down into existing dining room. They are open stairs.
By removing the wall we will have a lovely big family space but will this be acceptable for building regulations due to the location of the stairs?
