Sitting area in this room

Hi , is it possible to get a photo of the sitting are in this open plan area. I have an opened plan kitchen almost identical to this put am struggling a bit as to what to do with that corner. Thanks . Triona

Hi Triona, I'm afraid we didn't get a photo - it's an L-Shaped Blue Sofa which has a low coffee table in front and looks to a 55 inch LED TV on the wall.

Thank you - I would never have thought the sofa was blue from the picture!

Many thanks Mary Mary, and I can see how you have a second dining area in the garden. We do use our dining table a lot and wonder this is because it is near the garden at present and therefore we might use the living area more often if we reversed the arrangements?

Some of the laminates look pretty good but as you're using it in a dining area I'd go for something that is waterproof. The cost of fitting laminate will also be cheaper than wood. It sounds as if a more traditional floor would suit the room from what you've described. If you went for an oak I would try and break up the browns with a rug and accessories. Another option is to paint the doors if you wanted a modern floor but in any case I'd pick a grey which also has warm tones in and there are plenty around. What's the period of the house though and the overall style? If you can I'd try and bring home samples to see how they work with the doors

It looks like the little kitchen area has now gone so I would create a booth style seating area in that space. The piano I would then put at an angle in the other nook facing into the room as a feature corner. The rest of the seating would then be in the main central area. I think ultimately this depends on the budget you now have to finish the room, whether lighting can be changed to incorporate some features and task lighting/pendants. Have you considered having a designer look at the space? I work remotely and include lighting, layout and accessorising in my PDF remote designs. As you already have the wall colour and flooring sorted this you would be surprised how affordable the price is :) best of luck. It's looking great so far.

Heating for Kitchen/dining room to back sit room

Just a cheap but effective solution. We also have a kitchen / diner in an L-shape with a small lounge area attached.................all open plan. We have one large radiator that was heating it. Firstly, I notice that you have no curtains on the window in the middle. All the curtains ( including the window ) should be thermal backed and as thick as you can get to stop the heat going out of the glass. Secondly, the little radiator in the middle of the double doors doesn't look like it is large enough to have an adequate heat output for the size of the room, so I would change that. There are charts on line to work out the size you need, or if you enquire at any decent plumbing merchants, they'll work it out for you. Adding a good depth window sill to under the window will help prevent heat loss up and out of the window too. We bought a ceramic radiator to plug in, in the conservatory as a back up to our larger radiator and it works a treat! Really slimline too. However, the biggest saving on the heat loss is our curtains, which are really, really thick, make sure they cover the sill.
