glass install

so back- painted tempered glass right? was it installed with mastic? construction adhesive? thinset? and it looks like the edges of the glass are exposed at the transition to the tile, were the edges painted as well?

Wet areas should use thin set , in your case glass tiles , and wet area , you should use 254 Platinum white from Laticrete or PROLITE white from Customs Products. They are the best thin set in the marked and is suitable for glass applications and wet areas. Mastic is just used for small tiles and non wet .

Hi Ryan. Yes, back-painted tempered glass. I don't recall the adhesive used for the niche. And I don;t believe the edges were painted, I think you are just seeing the white of the back of the glass from the sides.

This type of installation can be a particular challenge. Here at hot box, the following example displays how it can and perhaps should be done. A full masonry stack houses a twin wall chimney system from this inset stove. The lead detailing by www.nealroofing.com makes the installation weathertight and therefore possible. A nice looking and practical solution to this type of installation.

Just make sure you have thought through it properly. Full glass wall along would mean you couldnt have any furniture at all anywhere along that wall, or at least not the last 80cm of length before the doors. It would make the room much colder - vertical radiators (taking up more wall space), underfloor heating? Just a thought - you have a huge expanse of glass/windows at the moment (way more than the average lounge) and you say you don't feel you get a lot of light in....... not sure if full length doors would make that much of a difference. Maybe its more to do with the position of the house.

Did they make a template of the wall? or take detailed measurements when the worktop, upstands and wall units had been fitted? I'd want it to go up to the underneath of the wall units as you say, then seal it with silicon to the wall units so no steam can get in. If its their measurements then its up to them to resolve to your satisfaction. Does the receipt show the actual glass measurements or the size it should of been to fit under the wall units. Personally i think the fitter could see it didn't fit properly thats why he was asking you if it was ok and you were happy with the position etc. Trouble is it will be a nightmare to remove the glass and it will damage the wall when they do it.

There is all manner of conservatory roof replacement options on the market now, but even the best in solar control glass will still probably result in a too hot conservatory in the summer. Some products require significant modification and structural work to your conservatory; others replace your old roofing material, polycarbonate or glass, with a more advanced version with better performance and insulation. One product you might want to consider is aluminium conservatory roof panels if you are thinking about replacing your roof and not having glass (although you can combine glass with panels and let more light into the conservatory). These are aluminium panels suitable for PVCu, timber or aluminium conservatories and simply replace the existing material with something better. No new conservatory parts, no structural work, no major modification work, and the installation typically takes about one day. It should also work out cheaper than a full roof replacement. Yes, you will lose light replacing the glass with a solid insulated panel, but the comfort in reducing the too hot/too cold feeling is excellent. Several companies are providing these products, so do shop around, and you don't have to use Greenspace, which can sometimes appear to be the only company doing these. Or you can get in touch with me or the website for more information and advice on these. They are very effective and without disrupting a completely new solid roof, although this also looks very good once done.
