My dream vintage rug is too big for the room

I’ve just found my dream vintage Beni Ourain rug. It has a unique pattern and will match perfectly with the wooden furniture in my home study. But it is way too big:

The rug is 2.9m × 1.7m

The room is 2.5 m×2.2m

Should I just buy the rug and roll one side to the wall? Will it be too obvious? Any thoughts and ideas, please?

If you love it store it for future use and buy something smaller for your study. I bought two similar to these on ebay and I wouldn't ever get rid of them.

I am always of the belief of where there's a will there's a way. I know exactly what your dilemma feels like when you fall in love with a certain item that is the wrong dimensions!

in your situation I would gather a bit of outside advice before purchase. Contact a carpet fitter and see if there is a possibility of altering the size for you. It's amazing what they can achieve with all sorts of flooring finishes. Am pretty sure they would be able to assist you in some way.

Wow...there is a lot of chat about this sink...I see it as simple as ...change it and put the right one in....end of saga....I would not be bringing in another option of a basin in here ....the original on is causing enough commotion. As for the clear gluey stuff ...that is silicone and that comes off of the tiles without a problem but you want to make sure that the pedestal of the original basin is smaller than the new one or you could end up with it not covering the tile line that this one had.....stick with the original....then there is no cost to you ....change it and it will cost you I would think...I would also put a smaller mirror about the size of the inner mirror without the framed edge... as I said previously as I believe that it is overshadowing this basin and will look even bigger with a small basin. What I would do is to put a piece of paper up on the wall and make it the size of your mirror currently and see if you like the size and then drop the size of the paper and see which is better. Hope you get this sorted soon...it is your bathroom and you need to decide before you get even more suggestions... hope this helps

If you go with orange then the print you have bought could go in with the scheme. For wallpapers have a look at Romo or Harlequin they have some lovely designs. I do think the dining area could take a feature wall so do look at that, it will define that area. Once you have decided on a wallpaper the rest will follow.

Hi Stefka, The bathroom is coming along nicely. Is the bath panel a match to the sink base? What material is the floor, vinyl or wood? If it's wood and you're not happy with the colour, have you considered either bleaching it, then colour washing it to a similar colour to the tiles around the bath or staining it darker? (Going darker will make the bathroom seem smaller.) To keep the textures and colours as simple as possible, paint the plaster walls a colour that is 2-3 shades lighter than the square wall tiles. A different colour will chop the room up more. A big mirror over the sink ledge, wall to wall, will make a huge difference to the feel of the room. It will reflect light all around and visually double the space. Colour can be added through towels and accessories like special bottles for oils and lotions. Your tiles look to be a pinky beige so look at neutrals or pale turquoise. Plastic shutters can be wiped down with ammonia and water in the course of cleaning the bathroom and allow access to the window for cleaning and ventilation.

Hi Sue, thank you so much for the idea of darkening the rug with tea, it’ s made of cotton so it should work ! I do appreciate your point of view about the kilim being too big for the sofa , I just needed this ! Actually they are too big even as floor cushions ... Never mind, they have been flattened in the closet for years and they’ll go back there. Can I ask you how many pillows should i use on 5 place sectional sofa ? 2 or 3 per corners? i will have to study how to combine boho pillows ... because it’s easy to choose a couple of them but choosing nine different matching pillows it‘s a kind of rebus for me expecially because i don’t like matchy-matchy but I don’t like confusion either ....thank you again , you have been very helpful!
