I am looking for a bespoke corner unit and desk for my conservatory

The desk is going in the P shape of the conservatory and I would like built in filing cabinets and a fridge. The corner unit is for my TV sky box and dvd etc, with a few drawers for storage maybe.

I never understood why people don't build their conservatory for year round use. It's all about light and heat control. Automatic sun reflective shades along the roof windows will keep the room from overheating in the summer and even help keep it warm in the winter. Proper wall and ceiling insulation, double or gas permeated triple glazing will keep it comfortable year around with the right heating. Add a wee wood stove in a corner with a simply pipe chimney and you have yourself a lovely winter sun room to brighten your cold winter days. If you live where there is snow, even better. It'll feel like a wee slice of paradise.

Is the chimney Brest hollow? Could you move the tv onto the wall to the left of the fire place? This would mean pulling the wires from your Aerial through the walls of the chimney but would look very tidy as you wouldn’t be able to see them in the new position. You can then pop the sofa where the tv is and put the chair where your sofa is or even get another sofa as you would have the space. Then the arch space could be built in storage that could hold everything that’s currently in the tv unit? There are some lovely arch cabinetry ideas I have screen shotted for you. That’s very clever Marina. I love the snug . I had a bit of a rearrange of our existing furniture yesterday and think I’ve convinced them to have an l shaped sofa by the window and in front of the fire. We’ll use the space on the left wall for the office and also have some space for our daughters to do their art and school homework. The existing sofa and cabinet are pieces that we brought back with us when we moved from Florida back to the UK, and to be honest, they have always been a bit too big for a UK home. Because of the conservatory (which has internal thermal panelling, the room can be a bit dark, so instead of the dark partition, do you think something like glass bricks would work?

Hi Amanda, There is certainly acres of space to do all you want to do, and more! As with so many others, I am not a fan of conservatories - baking in summer, freezing in winter and a permanent window cleaning nightmare. While garden rooms are great, I’d personally concentrate first on getting your kitchen/diner/entertaining/home office space absolutely spot on for your needs. If there is one room in any home which, well planned & executed, adds value, it is the kitchen(diner). Certainly well worth getting designs for the space made up to help you see the “art of the possible”. Last year, we undertook such a project (in a more compact space) to deliver a stunning handleless kitchen, island with Bob, with an extendible dining table coming off and a long dresser, stepped down to a large desk area. It has transformed the way the family use their home! If you are just looking for indicative concepts, OnePlan has a good reputation on Houzz. If you are looking to get closer to detailed plans & costs, then a kitchen specialist is the way to go. Naturally, I recommend seeking out good, local independent studios who are always more “design led” and “client centred”. Depending on where you are, I’d be more than happy to talk through options with you - if you are within striking distance, we offer a full design/supply/install service; further afield, we can DP design & supply (even to the Falkland Islands in the past!) or if it is just a detailed design you require, that too can be offered for a fee.
