Nothing since I got my new three-tier coffee table; it's a trio of glass/chrome circles (80s bachelor pad ironic, I like to think) stacked one above the other. It can be compact, with all three folded in line, or can expand to provide three separate surfaces at different heights. The remotes now live tidily in a decorative container on a shelf next to the sofa, and nice big books are displayed on other surfaces around the room. This leaves the coffee table free for important things like lazy TV dinners and cups of tea/ glasses of wine. Most liberating after years with a cluttered low, long table I kept tripping over.

The dining chairs are really strangely shaped, that's why there is nothing on them at the moment. They are really wide at the front and narrower at the back of the seat. So any square or regular shaped dining table cushion fits really strangely. I would -like- a beige rug, but I know myself and our lifestyle here enough to know better. The bottom of the house is open all summer with us and the dog going in and out. I'd be setting myself up for frustration trying to keep it clean. I would consider jute, my husband doesn't like the idea of it but I don't mind it. Is it really rough on bare feet? I just measured and I think the widest I could go for a coffee table would be about 1 meter wide.

That table looks great. I've painted furniture before. I used a liquid sanding product first. The advantage of liquid sanding is it gets in the furniture grooves and curved sections that are difficult to use sandpaper on. Then I used a combined primer and undercoat. Then paint in eggshell for a tough finish. I have also used chalk paints which can be used without sanding but I wasn't keen on the finish. It was difficult to get even coverage.

Hi, what do you think of this rug (or something like that) and these coffee tables?
