Ideas for en suite/walk in wardrobe space in Bedroom

Hi there,

I need some ideas for a small potential space next to the Master bedroom in a house I recently purchased.

The house has a single small toilet without a sink next to an airing cupboard.

I'd like to create an entrance through the bedroom into the airing cupboard and use the space which the toilet now occupies, however I'm not sure I want to make it into an en suite just yet, but would like to possibly keep the toilet (maybe insert a sink?) only for an option to easier convert it into an en suite in the future.

Does anyone have any ideas for what I could do with the space? It's very small not bigger than 5ft wide by 8ft long. If you can provide pictures too that would be awesome.

Hello Leesh,

It sounds like you rather like the idea of an en-suite and so I would perhaps suggest you go with it, rather than do one thing and then re-do it later. You mention the house has one single loo.. So would this mean presumably that you would also then situate a loo downstairs? If so perhaps you might consider turning the loo into a small wet room style shower room..

A wall hung loo and small sink would give you enough room for a small shower room fully tanked of course as they are lovely. If there is a bathroom with bath for example elsewhere on the upper levels then it could be one way of dealing with this smaller space..

Alternatively you may prefer to have a walk in closet.. Mind you.. If the bedroom is large enough you may be able to incorporate a walk in closet in the room itself.. I'm elaborating on your initial dilemma, but it may help you to decide just what you need and where exactly..

Depends what they want the third bedroom for. If an office space 2 singles may be fine. If a guest room would a single work? Could they knock the 2 bedrooms together to make 2 decent doubles?

Basic design packages don’t allow you to draw in sloped ceilings. So I think you need to enlist a designer or concept planner who can create the room in CAD and help you visualise the space including the ceilings. Try a search on Houzz for professionals. It really comes down to how many clothes you have and how much space you need to store them, along with where you prefer to get dressed and how you use your ensuite - obviously no point having double sink if you never share the bathroom, but if you're brushing your teeth while the other half is doing their thing in the next sink then this bigger ensuite might work better for you. It all depends on how you want to live, how much stuff you have and where you want to store it. If you can extend to 7m its definitely worth extending to maximise the space. A good way to do layouts is cut out little templates of a toilet, sink, shower/tub, king-size bed etc then you will be able to work out how much space you will need to achieve what you are hoping for.
