In the middle of a long drawn out revamp, coffee table relegated to the tip, it absence planned to last unsuitable within the new decor. But I missed it.!!!! And needs must. I discovered that using our old, 'long tall Sally' wooden stool was actually great for my coffee cup and nibbles. Matter of fact it looks rather cool. So I'm on the look out for a twin for my next project. Just need to decide what colour to paint them.

What do you think of a vintage style rug like this? I think something like that will work nicely too. Difficult to say if this particular colour will be right, but there are loads of other options too. It does look like there's some grey in it. Gorgeous table and FAB start. Books for height, a stack of books and a green plant/fresh flowers. Also some height will be good, you do not have to go too high but something tall will do wonders for a table. Here's a picture of mine (sorry it is from Christmas time) but it will give you an idea. The pine is replaced with a fern or some fresh cut flowers, the bowl is always there to coral my manicure set and odds and ends. I found another that shows it styled last spring, sadly both shots are a bit useless as they are so tight you cannot really see much, I nabbed them off my social media postings, but you can see the base of stacked books, skull, candles are a constant then few things change seasonally.

I like both suggestions by At No 19 with the additional thought that if you go for an ottoman a round one would tie in with the sideboard design. I'd definitely try to add extra colour and texture to your scheme to give the room interest. Unless your lounge is huge, I think it's both practical and fun to have several smaller pieces that can easily be moved around the room to provide as coffee table and/or extra seating. The space then becomes more flexible and the floor isn't taken up with a large piece of furniture in the centre of it.
