Kitchen help - what can we do to make it look better?
Comments (65)Depending on how far you budget goes, I would look at adding traditional cornice and pelmet and replacing the plinth with a similar oyster colour. End panels for wall units could also be replaced / added. Some chessboard style tilling in 3 colours would also bring out the walls. It's hard to tell but is the oak surround also on the wall units? I haven't checked your location but this is something we can help with...See MoreHow can we give this pantry a make over
Comments (7)It has all the woodwork around it for a door, but the door is missing, which doesn't help with the odd look. It's ok to turn it into a shelf only area, but you really need to remove the woodwork, which is making it look like a cupboard missing a door. Alternatively, if you don't want the hassle of roughing up the plaster & having to repair it when you remove the architrave, then put a door back on it. Traditionally Pantry's are a little larger and are for storing tins and jars of food. Are you going to use it for that? Do you want that on show? You could have shelves with baskets / boxes to keep everything hidden and tidy. Another idea would be to take a portion of the left hand wall down, open up the space as per picture 3 below and make it a larger open Pantry / Shelf design. Decision is yours alone x...See MoreColour mistake - how should we counteract?
Comments (5)Hi Sara, I think you are absolutely right- introducing some stronger colours and bolder accessories into your parent’s room will lift their scheme and create a more exciting sitting room for them to enjoy. The good news is that their neutral walls and furniture will provide a stunning backdrop to add some splashes of colour to. An accessory palette of greyed blue, soft green and touches of mustard will sit perfectly with the grey walls and sandy sofa, as well as bringing out the green in their curtains. I have found a couple of options that will work really well with their existing scheme and add pattern and interest to their room. I’ve also included some Dulux colour swatches which you can use as a guide when buying additional or alternative accessories. Try using a mix of plain and patterned cushions, complimented by a textured grey throw, to bring it all together. A green rug will introduce more colour, while gold and hand crafted ornaments will add a modern twist. I'm sure with these few tweaks, your parents room will now feel anything but dull. Good lucky Sara, and do let us know how you get on! Comments (36)Yellow was very popular in the late 1980s - often paired with royal blue or duck egg. As a colour it stimulates brain activity so it's sometimes used in school classrooms. If you must use it, use a F&B wallpaper for your feature wall which includes the yellow. Or scrap the existing feature wall and have the entire room yellow and go shopping for textiles that go with it...See More- eve thanked Landscape Design by James Brunton-Smith Limited
