Kitchen/Breakfast room flooring

Hi we are having an extension built to give us an L shaped kitchen breakfast room. The kitchen area will include an island unit and will occupy the bottom of the L, leaving the longer run for a kitchen table and a seating area.
We will have oiled oak flooring elsewhere in the building but are concerned over its durability in a kitchen environment. Do you think a tiled kitchen area and an oak floored breakfast/living area would work together?
