Hi there. Polished concrete is beautiful, great choice. I would speak to the experts on this, try Chalice Walk On. They will have samples of finishes and will be able to advise. If you are covering a large space then the addition of glass or another texture would look stunning, however if it's a fairly small space I would keep it simple and clean. Hope this helps!

If you want a beautiful alternative to polished concrete, look at www.sensofloors.co.uk/ It's a poured resin floor, hard wearing and looks stunning, hope this helps, Mike Lander, Director, Ensoul

I love your new plan. You are right to make the doorway from the house to the bathroom, you only need a concrete lintel above it, the wall will be fine! ( Any builder can do this! ) Can you spin the bath round so that it's under the window though?? You will probably have enough room for a storage unit to the left of the door as you walk in. Aswell as running Bagpuss,... we are experienced property developers and i always do all of the plans, and purchasing of materials etc.........also, 50% of the labour with my husband most of the time. It pays to know what's possible sometimes. I get up really early, so, following on from your latest plan, I 3d'd it for you, as i had nothing better to do. The pictures are a little grainy but you get the idea x

Hi Felicia, sorry to hear that this has happened to you too. It sounds like you have had a similar floor to us - was yours a poured concrete floor i.e. you had an 8-10mm topping poured on top of a screed? Do you know what make of material was used? So, over a year on from my initial post, we ended up having to pull the floor up and get it re-done by someone who knew what they were doing. This time, we ended up going for a solid slab of concrete which was polished up and looks great (but it cost a hell of a lot more!). The bubbles would have created problems outside in terms of water getting in, freezing, expanding and then cracking the concrete over time. But, when I was looking for a new contractor to re-do the floor (we didn’t pay the other guy anything), one of the contractors who was excellent stated that they could have repaired the floor with all of the bubbles. Essentially, the floor hadn’t been primed properly and this sort of thing can apparently happen if there are big differences between the substrate and air temperatures. They mentioned that there was a way to grind down a layer and fill in the holes so I wouldn’t despair just yet. It is a shame that your contractor is being unhelpful - ours was too. I can only suggest trying to call around some other contractors to see what can be done in the first instance. Alternatively, a lot of resin floors can now give a very similar effect to polished concrete but the cost is not cheap. Please feel free to come back to me if you need to as I know how disappointing this sort of thing is.

Microcement is a favourable alternative to polished concrete. No heavy machinery on site and the process is alot quicker.

Many colours are available, even a colour match service at an extra cost.

The main advantage with the microcement is the fact that it does not need unsightly expansion joints. It will always be seamless.

Hi There - have to say we love polished concrete - so much so we put it in our (kitchen) showroom and its been in situ for the last 7 years. Its so easy to keep and maintain.

In terms of colour, we had no choice as we were polishing an existing concrete floor. I have attached a picture below - its a grey colour but there is a huge reflection off it so its by no means dark and also quite warm to the foot.
