What type of art do you have in your home?
Comments (26)As someone who taught Textile design on a degree course (before retirement) and prior to that worked in a famous national gallery, I have extremely eclectic taste. I have work painted by myself, work collected from other artists, limited edition prints, framed ephemera, and even two very large antique Victorian watercolors in gold frames - which I wouldn't probably buy these day, but do provide a bit of "weight" and gravitas in rooms. I like to put them against ultra modern lighting and pieces of furniture to give a bit of edge and conversely, put modern art against a couple of pieces of antique furniture we have....See MoreHow many televisions do you have in your house?
Comments (8)Hello Teenytinyhouse, I have to say that I don't watch tv and have not had one for 10 years! I hate them dominating the living room which is not the focus in my eyes! I do love the idea of a roll down canvas for a projector but don't have one as yet but when I do it will be fixed to the ceiling in front of the fireplace roughly... Have to say I like the way you refer to it (TV) as idiot box.. I do miss certain aspects.. Namely.... David Attenborough on anything, Panorama, Scientific programs et al and Columbo! I may have a dvd or two(enty! : ) )...See MoreHow to decide on a piece of Art for wall
Comments (7)Hello fragle0, Open-ended questions like yours has so many possible answers that it's impossible to give you a direct answer. You may need to have a really good look at various websites, shops and artists creations to give yourself a feeling of what you would consider hanging on your walls, and what you clearly don't like. Seeing as you're on Houzz, why not have a look at some artworks from the DECOR tab at the top of the page as a start. Also, have a look at my website, particularly my BESPOKE DESIGNS section, for artwork that has been specifically created to compliment any rooms decor and furnishings: http://thejonescollection.gallery All the best in whatever you decide to choose....See MoreHow to live with your art tips
Comments (0)Consider the environment of the art Different rooms will speak to you in different ways, and the art will reflect this. You also need to be practical: save an unprotected painting for a reception room and choose a framed print or photograph for the kitchen, safe behind glass! Hang it with care Use soft gloves and use sturdy nails and make sure the hanging mechanism can take the weight of the piece. When hanging a single piece on a wall the centre of the picture should be about 60 inches off the ground, which places it at eye level. Give it the light it deserves Natural light will always show off an art-piece the best but correctly chosen artificial lighting can make a big difference too. Challenge your comfort zone Art does not have to colour match your interior! Contrast and juxtaposition can enhance the room and make the piece sing, otherwise it could just blend into the space and 'disappear'. Go big! Large pieces look fantastic on the wall and can even work in smaller rooms too as long as they aren't too overwhelming. Create a personal gallery You can turn your wall space into a collection of personal items, such as photographs and memorabilia - and don't be afraid to mix different artistic mediums. Swap your pieces around It is amazing how different an art-piece can look in a different room setting. Take the piece that was in your bedroom and try it in your living room. Play curator in your home. Tell the world about your new art purchase People should be inspired to buy art! The more art we buy, the more artists can make a successful living. Tell your friends, family, post on social media, scream it from the roof tops if you want... Contact the artist Tell the artist how the piece makes your heart sing. You will be surprised how seldom this happens, but what a difference this makes to an artist. You will make their day.
