POLL: Is there a difference between modern and contemporary style?
Comments (19)Well I've learnt something new today - according to google, 'Modern' relates to a style from the mid-century, 1920 - 1950 and it never changes. 'Contemporary' is used to describe what is popular right now. I always thought they were the same as I took the word 'modern' on it's actual definition and not what's associated to it through interior design. Either way, I hate them both equally.........See MoreMid-Century Japanese bungalow renovation in Kent
Comments (22)I think the interior of the rooms can be brightened/tweaked with lots of different approaches. Here a few examples: Photo one: bright, zen inspired furniture, lighter flooring(terazzo/carpet/wood). Organic colours.. Photo two: same thing, notice the bed fairly close the window. You could do that by having a pony wall/installation behind the bed as in photo three. Obviously not in wood, since your ceiling has enough of it present. Photo four: if you keep the wooden ceiling you can create interest and break up the stripe monotony with an interesting/large fixture....See MoreStyle of dining table for a small open plan mid century/modern space
Comments (22)Wow, thank you so much for going through the effort of illustrating this for me! Really kind of you! Good point about gold chair and the different finish on the lamp- did say I was clueless didnt i🙈 Kids are 10,4 and 0 so bench could work, but tbh I dont want one, because as much as I like the way it looks, I dont think it would ne that comfortable and we will be using table a lot- meals, family games, working from home, arts and crafts, so I want everyone to be comfortable🙂 So you think the heavy table would go OK with the rest of the decor like the examples above? Swoon supposed to be super unreliable with deliveries and table not available till march so im tempted by 3 week delivery promise from. Comments (6)For me I think the challenge of very new properties is that they tend to have none of the architectural details you are used to in an old house such as coving, panel doors, fireplace, architrave around windows etc. Plus builders tend to decorate in very pale colours. So the solution is the add color texture and pattern. Consider a textured wallpaper that looks like linen or woven grass or similar. Add a thick rug, cozy curtains and of course it’s possible to source these in an ecological way perhaps by repurposing things other people have finished with for a bohemian look. I also love oversized house plants. As far as extra seating goes I also like the mid century idea and two slipper chairs is in my opinion a great way to compliment an existing sofa providing versatile seating and lots of flexibility. If you choose something in a similar fabric or buttoned this will help tie it in with the rust coloured Chesterfield...See MoreNostalgia Fine Antique Fireplaces Ltd
