What's your favourite thing in your house which you bought?
Comments (10)What concerns me about buying furniture on-line is that I can't try it out to see if it is comfortable and if it fits me , which for me is a crucial quality in furniture (I'm taller, shorter chairs aren't a good fit). I also don't like not being able to assess the quality. I'm not a big fan of on-line furniture retailers for that reason and probably would not use one. So research the market, and especially the price point at which people will buy on-line. I suspect younger people are more apt to buy furniture that is reasonably priced on-line. Include all measurements (including seat height on chairs) and have a review/comment section so people can see how the folks who have bought furniture like both quality and the delivery service....See MoreIf you were to change the look of your home...
Comments (77)I have always been attracted to the Carmel-by-the-Sea houses designed by Comstock...the interiors are often decorated casually, with comfy sofas, chairs, maple & cherry furniture and nature-inspired art and accessories. Big fantasy. In real life, we are retired on Cape Cod, Massachusetts and live in a 1200 sq.ft. condo one block off a large town's Main St. and two miles from any beach. Except for the building and location, we have the rest...not sure if our decor is English casual, English coastal or ???, but I wouldn't change it, except to buy better quality sofa and chairs....See MoreWhat's the best compliment your home has had?
Comments (19)The best compliment I have had was when I was selling my flat in London. The lady who bought it came with a friend to do some measuring and in the course of the conversation the friend said 'oh I assumed you were an interior designer' when in fact I was a harassed working mother of two! One of my proudest moments :-) The best compliment my current home has had was when I overheard a dear friend telling someone 'You should see Gerry's house, no one else has a house that looks like that, it's so creative' bless her cotton socks....See MoreExpert advice please - best house investment options
Comments (12)Hi igho sadly it was not available, it was a probate purchase and was still showing for sale as the probate has been going on since November and wasn't complete, so the deal hadsnt even begun yet! I wouldn't be too impressed if I was the buyer and 7 months later no news.. I have now seen a 2 bedroom detached cottage in a really plush road, it's flanked by lots of 5 and 6 bed houses so it's a very unusual find. It's £475k and to make anything of this it would definitely need a 2 story extension and a substantial remodel with new kitchen and bathrooms, a £120k+ job probably. Very difficult to tell how risky this would be given that the total spend would be well over £600k once all fees and finishes are calculated. If I bought it and spent money doing a ground floor extension with kitchen diner etc, I'm still left with just a 2 bed cottage and even the estate agent said I'd make a loss! At the moment I'm more inclined to look towards renovation rather than extension type projects....See MoreOcean Clarke
