Help me revision my exterior for maximum kerb appeal
Comments (23)Time to revive this! Having had consultations with not one but two architects (Karin & Groveraxle were both right; not very costly and money well spent) who both offered up good suggestions and helped me come up with a plan of work for the house. I have had building contractors tendering for the work and have just this morning settled on the firm I am going to use. Work on the house will begin before the end of the month and is scheduled to take 6 weeks. There will be no structural changes to the outside but a little bit inside which will give me a bigger kitchen and will open up the living space somewhat. Also master bedroom is being reworked to add an en-suite, structural reworking of hallway and cloakroom - it will look so different and yet quite evidently the same house which is what I wanted :) Lots of cosmetic changes to take place externally and internally which is the bit I have been looking forward to. You are all invited back to help me make firm decisions about paint colours, wood varnishes, light fittings, flooring type, worktop choice et al! The journey continues :)...See MoreNew house and want to update exterior
Comments (21)Thanks for your comments guys. Regarding greenery, there is a semi circle of grass right at the front of the house, but I think some small potted trees/plants would look lovely near the porch area. Have checked with Dyebrick and they do not recommend their tint be used for driveways. Is anyone aware of other products that can be used to paint paving? Obviously more economical than re-paving altogether. The houses next door are generally white with black fascia and tiles. So we would prefer to keep in line with this. I think painting the whole house grey might make it look a bit cold or clinical....See MoreHelp exterior house update.
Comments (20)Thank you everyone. And if you all say it is an improvement, then I am sure will get used to it with time. Forza Italia and Emily, I know I do need some greenery around but I must confess am not green fingered at all and so is my husband. I have always loved seeing topiaries and mini conifers, maybe I could do artificial ones? Also fancy tall planters either side of front step kind of thing, what do you guys think?...See MoreSuggestions to update the exterior of 60's house. Cladding windows etc
Comments (5)Hi Alfie, A few suggestions that might help if you want a modern look to your home. Extend the current cladding to underneath the first floor window - this will create a nice line all the way from the ground to the pitch of your roof. Then stain all the cladding to match a deep wood color Change the windows at the fron of your house - may I suggest a black frame (here's a link with some examples - https://mariakillam.com/black-windows/). What this will do will balance the horizontal and verticle lines of the front of the house because of the grid like pattern of them, which is currently unaestethically pleasing. Also the white of the window frames do not go well with the cladding & brick colors. Paint your bricks a dark charcoal color. Paint your garage door black. Paint your front door black or install a larger front door package that is more modern and maybe incorporates the kind of windows you will have at the fron of your house like mentioned above. As has already been mentioned, the landscaping needs to be extended up to your home (the mature tree is wonderful). Right now the front of your home looks like a concrete jungle. You can soften this with scrubbery and possibly allowing a virginia creeper to climb up your home (this is a non-evasive climber that will not hurt your brickwork or structrual integrity of your home). All of these suggestions combined will transform the look of your home, give you an exterior to be proud of, and possibly give you the best looking house on your street. Of course, if modern is not what you are going for, this won't work, but may give you some ideas to jump off from. Best wishes & good luck!...See MoreGarden Design Guru
