Need help with with where tile and carpet meet.

New bathroom tile is porcelain and just a tad higher than carpet. I am afraid tile will get chipped if left as is. Is there a way to pad the carpet so it sticks up more and puffs up to make them meet better or do I have to get a threshold?

Something we've done is leave the carpet long at the threshold then fold it under and secure it so that there is a small rise to the tile level. How does the carpet currently terminate at the threshold? A picture would be helpful!

Hi Jill, sounds exciting, we always love a good bathroom renovation project, hope you do as well;) Our clients usually opt for neutral grey slate tiles with anti slip texture for the floor and then another type of tile for all the walls (shower, basin, everything) You could break it apart by deciding for a combination of half way and full height tiling. And then you can paint the walls in a complementary colour to give your bathroom that extra design feature. This design solution is timeless and elegant. For the walls we suggest either white metro tiles or marble one. Glossy preferably, so that they are easier to clean and bounce off light to make the space look even bigger and brighter. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for the comments and photos. Really helpful. Yes agreed it should all be finished off properly with a step. We did not realise it would finish so high up. We are on a budget and the tradesmen we have are not the most experienced. We might need to make the best of a bad situation. We bought a bullnosed step for the doorway but didn’t think we needed one for the end of the path....until now and it’s feeling all a bit too late.

I think the off white sounds nice. I wouldn’t worry about their pebbledash effect. Houses of different colours next door to each other look fine. I was just cautious if you had different colour roof, walls and windows it may not be that harmonious, but having said that you could play it safe and then have next door completely change their house. Unless you need complete new roof, one thing I’ve just thought of when we had side extension, we got builder to take roof tiles from rear and put them at front. That way the extension was not obvious and was perfect colour match. Hopefully someone will be able to advise you re curtains etc.

Hi, its a really nice space I know you mentioned you like the country style, you could incoporporate some wooden paneling similar to the image below for your wall and backsplash as it give a rustic vibe. Alternativly sage green tiles would lokk really nice and still keep the space feeling bright. I think a sage green would work really well with your white units and soften the black cooker (Ive added an image below). It would also work with either the grey floor you currently have or the beige travestine tiles if you did decide to continue them from your hallway. You could then add some sage accents like a clock, lights etc to bring the scheme together (taking inspiration from the below image.) And adding a plant maybe a Fern in a rustic pot will bring the country vibe into your space. Im not sure what your current units are made from but you could look into pianting some of the units to bring the colour scheme together. Hope this helps Louise
