For me it’s maximalism. Lovely in a quirky cafe or boutique hotel but at home it would give me a headache. I like a restful house and so yes quite a lot of it is grey! Not battleship grey or anthracite but bluey or greeny greys. Concrete floors. Depressing, cold, ecologically not great, look unfinished. Plants very high up. How do you water them? Walk in wardrobes even if it means the bedroom becomes tiny. I’d rather have a bigger bedroom with wardrobes in it, than dress and sleep in tiny spaces. Uber industrial. There’s a reason we usually hide cables, conduits, vent ducts...because they are ugly. Buying new furniture and accessories very often to have an “up to date“ look. I see all these instagram pictures with everything brass, mid century, wood, rattan, green (today’s trends) and I wonder what has happened to all their grey, painted, silver, shabby chic items from 5/10 years ago. And what will they do with today’s items when the look swings round again...

OK all, I have a website!! http://www.lucianastatues.com/ It's almost finished, I haven't started on the blog or added an 'About' page, as I'm not sure what to write yet. It went live a couple of days ago but then had some glitches, and the absent-minded geek (I have his approval to call him that) who made the site told me not to advertise it until he takes care of them. Everything is working now; I could say I have 2 websites, as he built another one for me initially that I didn't like that much. It was probably the wet dream of a webdesigner, with lots of features and pop-ups and hexagonal inserts (don't ask...!) but just too fancy for my needs. So I told him to keep it simple, sat down with him for a few hours and hurray!! - I think he's done a great job. This site is just straightforward and easy in my opinion, simple to use and with large photos that help with seeing the details. I would appreciate some feedback though, so please let me know what you think. I'm still not sure about prices, I mostly charge by how tall the figure is and how much I like it:)). Next week is gallery touring, I'm going to Birmingham tomorrow to a craft fair, but mostly to look and maybe buy supplies, not to sell http://www.thenec.co.uk/whatson/hobbycrafts# My main problem at the moment is that I ran out of stock! :)) I sold a few more things, but they were commissioned, so they don't appear on the site. Didn't have time to make a lot of new pieces, so some of the stuff that's there is mostly things I would've liked to keep or had on reserve, but now decided to sell them. I knew starting all this will leave me less time to play...... Plus my geek gave me a task list with stuff to do to promote the website, and I'm supposed to write that blog every couple of days..... Anyway, my gratitude again for your help and support. As I said, I'd appreciate some feedback on the site. @proctorlouise. I personally found them absolutely perfect – couldn’t fault them at all. I’d also read the reviews so I was a little apprehensive. As soon as the money had been paid I was pretty regularly in contact with Wren’s head office where they kept me updated with things at all times. Then closer to the installation date I was passed over to their regional support team, who were also perfect. After the kitchen had been fitted we’d over ordered some kick-boards as the measurements were really tight so this was just in case the fitter made a mistake. We also ordered 2 x venting kits of different types as we were not 100% sure which one would work the best. I called them, they turned up the next day to collect, then the money was back in our account the following morning. I also had a draw unit that was supplied ever-so slightly out of square – I told them, and a day later a new one turned up, then I was contacted to see if I needed a fitter to come an install it for me, or if I wanted to do it myself. It’s been such a smooth process I couldn’t recommend them high enough. It seems like they’re really got their act together. We’re also thinking about having our en-suite in our room re-done and I caught the Mrs looking at the Wren Bathrooms the other evening. We had 90% of the skirting boards fitted very early Friday morning – a local carpenter that gives me the impression that he really knows what he’s doing and loves his job. He’s been doing since it he was 16 as his Dad is a carpenter, and his grandfather – he poked around, asked who we got it from and who fitted it, I told him and he was blown away by the quality of it, and thought that a small independent did it. @mrstuartjames. Cracking kitchen there! Really like everything about that – you must be over the moon with it. @Curtis Designs. That’s exactly what I was after – a render that looked at least a bit realistic. It’s just the little things that go an awful long way, and I love having the personal touch. Maybe I just chose the duff companies as it really shocked me. Anyway – the wife and I went away Fri/Sat/Sun for a long weekend away with our friends – booked a couple of log cabins next to each other, completely off grid (no tv, no phone reception, no electricity (well, really poor solar), completley off grid – we lived next to the fire-pit, cooked everything on a BBQ and drank ourselves warm. As great as it was - even better without the kids - coming home, and walking into our house into our new kitchen really was a fantastic feeling and it was like seeing it new all over again. It looked even better IMO.

I agree with Jonathan, these things don't really add value, they just make a house potentially easier to sell, as opposed to increasing the price someone will pay. They're probably just less likely to knock you down on your asking price. Our Warwickshire office took part in anITV programme hosted by Linda Barker about adding value to your home and the results of the valuations before and after were quite suprising in some cases! We've since found that despite property prices in neighbouring Gloucestershire being already high, adding a well made, oak framed outbuilding really does make a difference to the value of the home. People love having somewhere to park their expensive cars!
