Would Sash Windows suit our new house?
Hi all!
My girlfriend and I are in the process of buying our new house- a three bed semi which I believe is 1930s.
We've always liked sash Windows but are unsure whether they'd suit the new house? Likely UVPC ones for low maintenance.
We would also ditch the UVPC front door and go for a wooden one- likely the same we put on our current house.
Any thoughts/opinions most welcomed!

7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoSash windows are beautiful, however, unless you are going to amend the aperture sizes down to that of a 'normal' sash window, then they will not suit your property. Period features should always be kept where possible, but I think switching to a lovely dark pewter coloured aluminium for an uplift would be better and will suit the house. If you want a period correct look, then go for something like this, to add a little character back.

Comments (15)So excited now by your comments, I'm definitely going with turquoise and taupe with the dark brown sofas. Can't wait to move. I have also noticed those large wall units which would fit in at the back of the lounge as it is a bit of a spare space. The door is in the middle of the lounge and I anticipate the sofas going to the right of the door near the fireplace. Can you buy these or are they bespoke to a each requirement? Comments (6)Gut feel is the frame shapes you have are right for that house/setting. The sort of low rural building lends itself to simpler windows. I can't see if they have georgian bars (I'd remove if they do) A darker or just different colour frame perhaps outside & leave white inside for light. I would expect a sash window to work better with high ceilings inside - like a victorian house taller shaped building - but thats probably because that is where I've seen them most often. 7 years agoYour neighbours have chosen something that matches the house and semis that match look much better in my opinion. I would copy the neighbours as closely as you can on your budget
