Maison de Maitre what colour shutters?

Hi everyone
I'm having great difficulty deciding on a colour to paint my shutters in mmy house in France. The window surrounds are a bluey grey stone. I've tried Farrow and Ball Mizzle but it doesn't really work with the grey stone. Do I paint them white? I would like a sophisticated look which would enhance the house and give it some presence..at the moment I feel it's a bit drab. Thank you.

think you would give yourself more options by painting the stones white but
the grey is very smart so if you want to keep it I would perhaps choose a bright shade of blue to add a bit of interest and contrast against the walls. I'm thinking of a blue like this:

If you do decide to paint the stones
white you can then choose any colour you like for the shutters so it opens up a lot of options. My initial instinct is to pick a warm, sunshine yellow. It’ll be cheerful and welcoming even in the dreariest weather. Perhaps something a bit deeper than this shade:

Comments (32)In the Summer the countryside is almost unbeatable. The walks, just the beauty of it all changes your whole perception of the world for the better. There are downsides though. We live down a narrow dead-end lane with only a handful of houses but it's not as quiet as you might think, what with walkers, who think no pavements mean it's ok to walk 3 abreast in the middle of the road, horse riders who use their high position to look over your fence and have a nosy, 'sat nav says so' idiots (FOUR signs at the end of the road that tell them to turn back and they STILL carry on) and cyclists who think that because it's the countryside they can ride at high speed around winding bends and look disgusted that someone may be walking along the road. Also in the Winter it can feel isolated and lonely, with frequently flooded lanes and virtually non-existent public transport. A car is essential, deliveries unreliable and amenities non-existent but even with all the negatives there's something about looking at a stunning view that can whisk all your cares away in an instant. Comments (8)Hi. I love French grey which would work with your roof. Vert de Terre and lichen would also look nice, I'd pick up a few testers to see how they work in the light. I'd try slipper satin for the render which works with all the colours. I wonder if you'd also consider adding shutters to give more of a Cottage feel? You could also add a window box under the right hand window which would balance it with the other window and continue with the Cottage look as would adding a knocker to the front door...See More

7 years agoHere's the Parma Grey, the real Farrow and Ball on the tower, painted about seven years ago and the equivalent the decorators used on the barn conversion next door a couple of years ago. Look slightly different but that's the photos and the light, they are actually identical. No problems with the heat and cold - only trouble we get is woodpeckers attacking the shutters from time to time.
