I was just reading the comments above and I thought I would draw it up for you. This is a really small room, as soon as you start dividing it up the space will feel ridiculously cramped with all your belongings. I suggest you make your own shelving and desk or hire a carpenter to make you something bespoke for you as it is such a small space. Give yourself a long desk, half for computer half for painting. Where normal depth furniture will hinder door access put your tv area. Put storage beneath your desk area. More importantly instead of having an intrusive book case put a shelf that goes all of the way around the room just above door height. You do not need to acccess your books everyday so make use of the limited space you have and put them up high. This also allows more wall space for your artwork. Let us know how it all goes

These comments are great! Diana - love your comment on the table Luckily it's just an Ikea table I attacked with spray paint some years ago so more than ready to ditch it! Definitely thinking plants, lamps and maybe a chair with small table under the window. Jules you're right about the Christmas tree - I'm getting it earlier each year to spend more time with it! Sam I love the brick look (and am thinking of including it in the new kitchen - if we ever get around to doing it). Thank you randoms on the internet! Was thinking of getting rid of the shelves and built in cupboard and putting a 'cool' cabinet for the to go on one side and a small table with picture above it the other? Will def put a mirror above the fireplace. Won't be the one in the room now as that's too big - it will be relegated to the landing . Thanks all! X

Have a look at F&B All White. It looks fresh but has a softness to it. You could have a dark feature but I’m not convinced it would be a good idea in a north facing room. Can I ask what colour your walls are at the moment? Here’s some pics of All White. There are other whites of course such as Pointing or Wimbourne White which are warmer. ALL WHITE WIMBOURNE WHITE

If those wardrobes have to stay then they are the most dominant thing in the room and you have to take your lead from them. In my opinion you probably don’t like it at the moment because the wardrobes are so structural/ practical/ masculine you probably feel the room has no romance. So you need to inject the romance using pattern that includes a coloured pattern that compliments the wardrobe. The wardrobes took mahogany coloured on my screen so I think you should be looking for a duvet and curtain set and it will most likely have a feminine pattern that includes a nod to the wardrobe colour. I would then paint the walls the colour of the background of the duvet you choose (so likely a landlord pleasing fresher white than is currently on the walls). A larger light shade or a pretty light fitting would also help.
