How to change colour

My home bar is a Beech wood/veneer. I would like to change the colour to a mahogany / dark wood colour. Not sure if it can be stained or painted. Is there anyone who could do this for me or tell me how it can be done, or any other suggestions to make this fit into my colour scheme in this room which is dark wood furniture and white, with blue. Really don't want to remove the bar from the room but it is like a sore thumb at the moment. Please help.

What a lovely feature to have in your house!

With staining beech wood veneer in a mahogany colour, there
is a very specific method to do this where you need to sand the whole surface
down before painting with the correct paint type. I recommend you give the
Dulux Technical Team a call on 0333 222 71 71; the guys here can help you to
find the perfect paint finish for your veneer.

I think you need a French polisher or furniture restorer to give you the best finish.
However you have said it stands out like a sore thumb and I can't help thinking a mahogany bar would be more imposing not less so. Have you considered instead painting the panels and cabinets a pale colour and perhaps refinish the bar top with a pale stone or quartz?

It depends really, but definitely more in summer. My husband tends to sweat a lot (yes, it's gross I know but he's handy for carrying the shopping, mowing the lawn & removing bugs etc etc) so I feel the need to change the sheets more frequently. I also often change pillow cases in between bedding changes if necessary but in the winter when everything cools down I do let things go a little longer. This looks to be a semi detached property - is that correct? If so then I wouldn't recommend changing anything dramatically from the neighbours as it'll visually unbalance your half and generally detract from the overall appearance. Just add some planters either side of the front door to soften it off.

Specialist 'Fence' paint that you spray on is quite thin, otherwise it wouldn't go through the sprayer. You can paint the fence with any wood paint- Satinwood works well, gives a bit better longevity. I've even slapped on Masonry paint before now, that works great too. Proper paint is obviously thicker, just use a nice big not to dense brush and work it in. The first coat can be hard work, but subsequent coats are a lot easier. Been a bit busy over the last couple of weeks with work and doing a bit of wallpapering every night (who knew wallpapering an 11 foot drop was torture on an amateurs arms and shoulders!) we have finally got it done. Been doing some research too and apparently the house is Edwardian not Victorian, though lots of Victorian styles came through into the period. Edwardian is apparently 1890 to 1914 (even though Queen Victoria was still on the throne). Every day is a schoolday! Anyway, the look we have gone for is very old fashioned, opulent yet comfortable and cosy. It is not quite finished as I am going to investigate some oak mouldings to get the bookcases looking less Ikea and more country house library. It really won't be to everyone's taste and is quite different to most of the styles you see on here but we like it. :) The other bit of completely awesome news is that we won the recent Houzz/ Schneider light switches competition and a lovely lady from Schneider has come to visit to show us the switches we could have. Having not won anything like this before I am incredibly excited! They are not fitted yet but we will be sharing photos of the typical bodge we have found in the house that this will fix. In addition to how the room looked before we moved in, here is a photo of the room when we first decided to buy. And now... from the door And from the patio door And the other corner The picture on the mantel will be replaced by a big ornate gold framed mirror. We grabbed the pic from an antiques place but it turns out to be a print - darn it, Antiques Roadshow hopes dashed! lol! So, onward and upwards, the study is probably next, I am feeling the possibility of a 60s mustard and grey vibe in there!
