What fabric to re-upholster this chair?

Hi there

We are trying our hand at upcycling. We are thinking of painting the chair either in Rust-Oleum Challyu 'clotted cream' or 'bramwell'. Struggling to decide on what fabric to use to reupholster the seat? Should I go plain or patterned?

Any suggestions would be great - also advice on which colour to go!

Hi,

These dining chairs have a very country feel to them- depending on the rest of your furniture and colour scheme, a fabric with a linen look and soft colour would work well with the wooden textures we can see in your picture. Looks like a fun project!

Your inspiration photo is good - the dark grey colour and the panelling (paint looks like Farrow & Ball Downpipe to me) would look great on your fireplace wall. Paint the other walls off white or very grey. I would get rid of the fire, it's tiny and not much of a feature, I would put the TV on the wall in place of the fire over a console table which could have lots of lovely things on it. You would then have room for your winged back chair on the wall on the left now the TV has moved. I would give the storage units a lick of chalk paint either in a off white or charcoal grey and change the handles to make it look more boutique and then it's down to the accessories, bring in some more green. I would probably get rid of the smaller unit and replace with a small side table on either side of that sofa with a lamp on each table. Above that sofa I would add a sunburst mirror or a statement piece of art, or a collection of mirrors. Add art to the wall where the winged back chair is in dark frames.

hi Carolina, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me and love your ideas. I should have added more detail but you managed to visualize the layout quite closely. Actually, no door in dining area , only access thru sitting room. Love the area rug and have Macys one which will work perfectly - might pull a greyish -blue color from rug for walls maybe similar to the example you provided. Also have two mid-century style floor lamps which I can use. I really like the idea of a mural as the Wow - only concern is that radiator is on that wall. Do you think I could work around that somehow? Shelving will work perfectly - I was thinking something from Ikea or JLewis. Agree that blind is better and like curtains on patio door side. I am really hooked on the mural suggestion . Thanks and I will post a updated photo to show you the final result when we get everything done -hopefully by Dec. -especially now that I have something to show 'the main man'. Very pretty fabric. The background grey of the curtains would make a lovely wall colour. I don’t think you need anything bolder as the fabrics are quite bold. A pale grey carpet would be a nice neutral. I think you could go quite bold, if you dare, with the sofa though - bright green or teal, or pink. I think the Parker Knolls would look great in a bold velvet, but if that’s too much then a muted grey will still look great and you can liven them up with colourful cushions. Here’s some ideas, but I couldn’t find many images of curtains like yours with a sofa!
