Dulux UK equivalent or similar for the wall colour?
Comments (51)I tried colour matching various f&b shades with Valspar professional , some of which B&Q even had a 'recipe' for, but none of them really came close. I ended up buying mainly with Valspar's own professional paint (primer & paint in one) & loved the durable, scrubbable, finished result. They have a fab colour range too & their colour cards are a good size & absolutely spot on to the painted colour. (If you cannot see a swatch of colour that you like, they have an additional enormous swatch book under the counter. Their tester pots are brilliant value for money & a good size too. I also bought Dulux & Crown on the 2 for £22 offer which is unbeatable if on a tight budget!...See MoreNeed help with my Hallway and Landing ...
Comments (18)After living with beige neutrals for about 10 years I revamped my stairs and hallway early this year with lavender walls and the brightest white gloss I could find. Mine is not the biggest space so I took out the pendant light and had recessed spot lights installed. Finished off with a silver grey carpet, although I confess this went completely against everything my friends told me....."dark carpet on stairs!". It looks fab, light and clean, although I am now a strictly no shoes upstairs freak. The floor downstairs is a parquet type flooring in a pale oak colour. I have dark oak in the kitchen and am pleased that I went with the paler oak for the hallway. I finished it off with a white blind at the top of the stairs where the only window is and the space which doubles up as an office. The first picture is taken at night with the spots on and it shines different in the daylight. Overall, I was sceptical when the first coat of paint went on but now I'm quite liking the whole 'purple' effect....See MoreHelp! Struggling to uniform front of our Victorian terrace.
Comments (24)I'm thinking off white or a very light grey for the brickwork including the bricked up porch. Slate roof on the porch and wooden door to save money. Dark grey on the fence. And use planting to disguise the current render around the window and to add colour. Pub side, pleaching trees look like a great idea though would need to ensure they don't grow roots into the house. I feel so much more confident now. Thank you all....See MoreHELP PLEASE!! Landing, stairs, hallway decorating ideas
Comments (17)I have a hall way very similar to yours, when we moved in it was painted white. I presume the previous owner wanted to improve light levels. It had the reverse effect! It made the space seem gloomier which may be related to the front of the house being north facing, what direction does your house face as this may influence paint choices. I love colour but go neutral in a space like a hall way as it links all the rooms in the house and in Victorian houses is very difficult to decorate, ceiling heights etc. We used Farrow and Balls London stone as it remained a true neutral,,many other beige/greige had pink/ purple tones which showed in artificial light. I agree with the other comments about stripping the doors particularly if you do decide on white, it will provide contrast and warmth. You could paint a darker colour beneath the dado rail. I would suggest careful placement of mirrors to maximise/ steal light from other rooms. Also pictures with glass bring light to the area too. You could mount pictures on the stair case in line with the treads. I agree with the earlier comment about mounts and frames. I would go for a runner to show off your lovely stair case. Does the door to your kitchen/diner have a glass panel (s) in it, if not I would suggest adding one or two depending on the type of original door you have that will pull light in from that room. Good lighting will help too, it all depends on your personal preference, you could have pendants downstairs and spotlights upstairs. Good luck with it and hope you enjoy the process...See Moreskateboardstickers
