Tile all the walls of our ensuite?

Need to make a decision on this quickly!
We are using the decor tiles from this range in our v small ensuite:

Originally we were going to just tile the shower area, but I'm now thinking it would be nicer to tile one entire wall (it's only about 2.4m long) - similar in effect to the attached picture. I would then do the other two walls of the shower (it has 3 walls as it is tucked into one end of the ensuite) in the white tile from the range linked to above. Would you tile the rest of the ensuite or is it ok to leave it painted? There isn't much wall left but one wall has the door on it, the other the toilet and a recessed cabinet so there will be a lot of cutting of tiles. Do fully tiled ensuites feel a little clinical? Is it nice to be able to change the paint colour in he future (even though there would be very little wall to change!)

Hi there, was really interested by your post, as we are looking to bring a very similar set of tiles into one of our bathroom displays at our showroom! Our approach, though, is a bit different - we're opting for this on the floor and going for stone-effect porcelain tiles on the walls with just a narrow "band" of this in behind the shower itself. Part of the thinking is that while these tiles are very popular at present, we feel that they have a "shelf life", and it will be easier to redo a floor than a wall against which units, shower screens etc. have been mounted. In a smallish space (as our display "pod" will be, we find that a heavily patterned floor with simpler walls helps keep the space seem roomier - a heavily patterned wall can be a little oppresive after a while.

At the end of the day, though, it has to be what you feel you want yourself.

Thanks for the advice! I think you may be right that these tiles might date. Unfortunately I've bought the tiles already so I will have to choose whether to put on 3 walls of shower or along one wall! Maybe it would be safer to put in the shower then, so I can change easily in the future..

cheers Robert Way Designers. I had considered making a feature which would conceal the waste as it has to run above the joists for a section unfortunately. i'd also like to include some concealed lighting - any advice on what to look for that's suitable for a wetroom/bathroom environment please?

I agree that it is unusual now to find a new house without one but I think if you have space to put an extra shower room elsewhere so that you still have more than one then it should be okay. Ideally somewhere not far from the master bedroom. Also like the suggestion for you to put in all of the pipe work etc so that it can easily be added later. If you dont get round to it upon resale then atleast there is less work for a buyer.

Here's a photo of the space as it looks at the moment! The vaulted ceiling is another reason why I don't want to tile the entire room - it would be an awful lot of tiles to go right to the ceiling!

Hello, With 2D drawings when they are not fully rendered, you can't see the texture and I think this is a bug part of what's making you feel slightly uncomfortable about the space. I actually think it's really lovely and once you get the textures of the walls and tiles, the mirror bouncing light around you will be more pleased than you think. In the bathroom images you have added as inspirations, the designs are about simplicity. About the impact of the tile's textures and the clean lines that the style offers. It's drama in a simple form. I think your designs will have that if the tiles have texture. Like the last image there, you can see they have added some texture and variation in colour and shape in the flooring, and some texture in the stool and flannels. These are the small changes I would make to your design if you feel it needs more depth :) I hope that helps a little but great work so far! Thanks, Gina

Whatever you choose to do, I have no doubt these tiles will look stunning - I always love it when a client is daring enough to make bold choices and create real statement rooms - why have "nice" when you could have "wow". And if you do eventually want to change them - well it keeps studios like mine busy, so I'll never complain!

I think it might look better on one wall instead of going around the shower. In terms of tiling the ensuite - I'd tile around it if it is smallish. If it's a spacious room, then I wouldn't tile everything.
