Door frames and skirting board colours

I've come home to the painter having painted gloss white skirting boards and it looks awful against the muted / grey tones of FB. If I had the skirting boards repainted a muted tone will it look odd that the door frames and doors are matt white? Or should the matt white doors be painted the same colour as the skirting boards?

If the doors or a Matt White, I would do the skirting boards the same.

skirting the same to gain a more cohesive look, although I'd prefer matt skirting in oppose to gloss

My personal opinion, and what I've done in my home, is to use the same white for all the trim. The exception might be in a kitchen, living and dining room that has a more traditional feel and is already stained. If you are going with white ceilings, then in my opinion it looks best if they are uniform to start with. You can change that out room by room later if you want.

Hello Kirsty - I would repaint the walls a different colour from the yellow maybe a light beige (it looks like you have children). I would change the door frames and skirting boards colour to be off white. Also paint the timber features back of front door, cupboard doors in the corner and the shelf in the fire area to be painted off white too. Are you wanting to change the curtains, carpet, sofa, rug or tv cabinet? I would choose your favourite colours and add them into the room. In the rug, cushions on the sofa, art on the walls, or one large vase of pot in the fireplace. It's hard to tell from the photo what colour the sofa is. Is is black or navy? Maybe add a square ottoman with a lid to put all the soft toys inside and remove the clutter. What colour is the carpet? too. Let me know your favourite colours and I'll come back with a few ideas.

Nice colour. What is it? Thinking of using similar in my lounge. Here’s a few inspo pics for painted fire surround (click to enlarge). I’ve included a couple of fire places where they are all one colour which I quite like the look of so for me I’m going to stick with my gut instinct and say the same colour as the skirting. But don’t take my word for it, the choice is absolutely yours! I always find holding a F&B colour chart against all the surrounding objects and in different lights helps me make a decision. Hope this helps.

for me it doesn’t quite sit right, maybe it’s just quite harsh against the white walls, or slightly the wrong tone. but it doesn’t look totally wrong so if you like it stick with it! I really like your front door colour against the flooring so personally I would carry that on to the skirting boards and banisters.

Keep skirting and door frames the same finish, easier and faster to repaint the skirting boards for you I think.
