Would you have an upside down Christmas tree?

The latest trend seems to be to hang your Christmas tree upside down. Are you planning to do this or even something just as unusual?

Kalami in North East Corfu. Beautiful clear blue sea, bleached pebble beach dotted with driftwood overlooked by hills lined with ancient olive and pine trees. A couple of fabulous tavernas on the beach and a water taxi every evening to take you to one of the superb tavernas on the beach (literally) on Agni bay or Agios Stefanos. Grilled calamari, octopus stifado or king crab linguini eaten on a jetty overlooking the bay and the fishing boats - accompanied by a glass of excellent Corfiot wine. No large hotels, nightclubs or English pubs. Unspoilt just like the Greek islands used to be!

Yes, you must give a lot of thought to this - The Council website (planning dept) will show any historical applications and whether they have been granted or not. But if the weather is nice this weekend, I would go and have a look at the effect of the trees in the day - I know the sun will be lower at this time of year but you will be able to see how it impacts on the house. Finally, never assume that because the trees have possibly outgrown the area they were planted in, that the council will grant you permission to have them removed. You are not going to get a definitive answer as to whether permission to remove would be granted without putting in an application so you have to purchase assuming that there is nothing you can do about the trees and that they will be staying. I'm with eimearcahill, there is absolutely NOTHING tasteful about my Christmas decorations, it's excess everywhere. I did suggest when my daughters both got to their twenties that I might scale things back a bit but, after a reaction that could have earned them a walk on part in The Grinch who Stole Christmas, I realised that it was obviously very important that I spent the best part of a day turning the house into Santa's grotto :D I now have a granddaughter so I am resigned to many more years to come....

I like how the roof has a higher pitch than the aspiration picture shown and I think your instinct to make this an upside down house will take advantage of the vaulted space upstairs. As the house has no front garden you may need to plan the bedrooms carefully to make avoid noise intrusion and ensure privacy when guests use the front door. If you are considering planning the internal layout or any extensions you may want to post a specific question as a Design Dilemma.
