Our lounge/ drawing room - need inspiration please!!!
Comments (16)Hi Diana. Re your windows I would look at something like this (dining room pics in link) http://www.drivenbydecor.com/2015/05/window-treatments-tricky-recessed-corner-windows.html 0r have a voile blind inside the recess and the curtains hung outside to give more height to the room. I'd go for a pole that doesn't contrast with the wall colour. Farrow and ball blackened may work for the walls (which way does the room face? I'm assuming some of the pics are a little dark as you didn't have any light behind you when taking the pic?!). Were you planning on dressing the feature window? As you've got cool and warm greys I'd layer them so a warm grey sofa with a cool grey or maybe blue ikat cushion. I'd have seating at right angles to the fire, sofa to the right of the fire with a lamp table closest to the fire and 2 accent chairs opposite, patterned ones might be nice. I'd go for large art over the fire rather than a mirror as you've got the window, perhaps a landscape. In terms of the look you want, perhaps look at velvet for the sofa. Lamps will add cosiness, a driftwood lamp will give the natural look. Add texture for the seating, perhaps a patterned cushion in front of a textured one and a textured throw on the other arm of the sofa. Also use plants and perhaps some faux flowers (I like oka faux hydrangea but it needs to be mixed with foliage). Perhaps a brass glass coffee table to add some warmth with some coffee tables books and the flowers!...See MoreTV stand/bookcase inspiration please!
Comments (8)Ok, how deep are the alcoves? are You able to do basic diy? I cut my Billy 10cm to fit into the space. It was worth it. I really like your fireplace surround. It would be really nice to get or install something to compliment it. go for billy/ besta combination. besta 120cm (60+60 combination) cabinet with legs and put a top 132cm to go for wall to wall. Complete with billy/besta wall cabinet above. If someone is able to do some diy you can add some side panels to look built in. Look on the YouTube, there are videos people do it. The on the other side take billy tall cabinets (80cm+80cm) as built in bookcases. go for white cabinets and combination of glass and solid doors. You would be also able to add some cabinet lights . Good luck. Let me know if you need help x...See MoreTo extend or not to extend…? Advice and inspiration please.
Comments (14)Thank you for your comments. @Jonathan your plans are quite close in layout to our grand design which involved a 5m extension across the back of the house with a pitched roof on either side of a middle entrance to the utility / dog room. QS was saying £300k plus optionals (like the kitchen apparently!). Do you think we could achieve something like your plan for £100k? @Emily Lukes that is a really interesting idea and has encouraged us to think more openly about the whole space. I should have said that the store/office are in the garage. My husband works from home all the time and I do sometimes (even without Covid-19) so we have to have some study space. Lots of food for thought. Thank you....See MoreHall inspiration please
Comments (5)Look at your front door, wow! Everything you have suggested sounds great. Your current wooden floor looks lovely, but if you want a change then why not? As to the wall colours I can see pale grey or taupe on those walls, and for the stairs. I think you could leave the hand rail part natural and just paint the rest in a grey or taupe or white. A nice wall colour would be F&B Ammonite and it would look lovely with a darker shade on the staircase such as Downpipe. If you prefer a softer warmer look then Skimming Stone or the darker Elephants Breath would look good. You can keep the woodwork white if you want to keep it fresh. Dark hallways are very popular at the moment, so that’s another avenue and I’m sure others will advise. Here’s some ideas, I’ve also included Pigeon as I think it looks amazing (last pic)....See MoreBertie Coombes
