Please please help! Urgent advice on decor!!!
Comments (11)As Minnie says, not a fan of chalk paint on furniture, it has it's places, but for a washable surface with kids around it's a big No No. It has to be sealed and then it doesn't look like chalk paint anymore - and, quite frankly it's a load of old B*** that it sticks to almost any surface - almost being the operative word there. You can paint ikea units. Scratch the surface with a fine grade sandpaper 120 grit....then use a good quality water based primer - we use dulux. ( one coat should be enough with dulux ) Then buy a waterbased satinwood paint - also our preference is Dulux Diamond Trade..............you can pick your colour off any of their colour cards. You have great flat surfaces, so if it were me i'd roller the top coat on with small gloss rollers. You may need to do more than two coats but it will give a better finish than using a brush. Don't over load the roller, don't worry too much about the small air bubbles, they flatten out when it dries and kind of gel together. x...See MoreHelp with soft furnishings and accessories in living room please
Comments (20)I've just looked at your old post, wow the room has changed! Re the sofa wall, I would add scandi style art with rounded shapes just to break up the lines of the rug. I wouldn't go for curtains with the radiator personally (which I'd paint in the wall colour) but Roman blinds, I think a horizontal stripe would help with the ceiling height. I'd bring the chair in a little from the door so it doesn't visually look as if it's blocking it. A personal thing but not keen on throws over the back of chairs/sofas, just the arms. I do like your navy throw but wonder if a tasselled one would look good? Scarves are a cheaper option and normally a much better fit. Unless the table is left empty for practical purposes I might add accessories or even just a vase of stems. The only thing I'm less keen on is the gallery wall area, it seems a bit busy as you've already got the frames. I might just go for the hemnes shoe cabinet and add a large plant and then a small one in your brass pot. I think just adding books and plants will help with the accessories...See MoreHelp with accessories please!
Comments (3)I agree, blush, copper and grey work well for a scandi theme. Caramel should also work with a pink and pick up the wallpaper. Do you have a picture or link to the sofas and tables? I would also try and add some wood, assuming you have a tv, do you have a tv stand or any other furniture?...See MoreHELP! Paint advice for lounge please
Comments (33)We moved into a house with a north facing bedroom and it’s taken me until this winter to realise how much I absolutely hated the grey on the walls. I’ve repainted it James white (very pale green) and changed the curtains and even in the gloom of January it’s a lovely bright space now. North facing dark rooms are ok if they’re snugs or tv rooms but if you ever want to feel awake and alive I think they need the lift of lighter hues... I agree with colourhappy- live in it for a bit and see. I get the need to minimise upheaval- I have 3 tiny kids, but it’s worth getting to know your space in all weathers first!...See MoreK Tam
