What kind of lampshade or light should i put in front of the chimney b
Now I have a gallery lampshade as I used to put our dining table underneath, but we moved the dining table on the right hand size of the chimney, and the left hand side will be a little sitting area. so the light is sort of in the middle of the dining area and the sitting area. and my kitchen is farmhouse style (ignore the fluorescent tube, we have got a new light for it already, will put it up soon) Any advices what style of light or lampshade should I put in front of the mirror? thank you very much

Comments (51)Pam Gascoyne Hi Tom, As the focal point of the room is quite definitely the fireplace perhaps you should start with making something welcoming and eyecatching be it with candles, fake but really convincing burning gas coals in the grate or even good lighting it needs to really glow. The room is not really huge and perhaps keeping the walls light with, say, a warm very light grey with similar colour linen curtains or white venetian blinds would lighten the whole room and white bookshelves would be really excellent. A rug is essential but keep it cool too like the John Lewis multi stripe grey/neutral. A print or prints are a good idea and with the neutral scheme you could have anything you liked and pick out a pop of colour from the artwork and add to the cushions. The mirror is definitely too big and too gold. If you want to keep it hang it landscape and tone it right down dry brushing silver leaf over the gold but it’s a good place for a striking piece of artwork you like. Perhaps you should question why you want a 'contemporary colour' instead of one of the many choices which will enhance your beautiful period house. Comments (18)Hi, there’s no great need for backs and base on the wardrobe. My parents don’t have them it gives more space. Dividers you’ll get at a timber merchant. But if you prefer a proper base B&Q will cut wood to size or it could be better putting some cheap wood flooring in if easier to cut or a fresh piece of carpet. Otherwise I’d wash down the walls and a good hoover and you’re good to go. https://kitchenandbedroomdoors.co.uk does wardrobe doors. For a modern look I would recommend non-gloss/Matt white, pale grey or pale-caramel colours, plain or shaker style design doors, and either door types with no handles required(it won’t date), black handles or brass handles. Depends of course on your preference. I would advise getting someone to hang the doors otherwise you’ll be fixated on any slight imperfections! 7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoI think a more modern style of country lamp would look really wonderful here over a seating area or coffee table. Something like this might suit. I wouldn't go with something too 'heavy' or 'antique' looking: the fireplace is a lovely feature unto itself.
There are loads of variations of this kind of lamp if this isn't your style.
It does matter of course what the lighting in the kitchen looks like as they should compliment each other rather than fight against each other in an open space, but don't need to 'match'. Best of luck finding the right piece! Hope this was helpful.

7 years agopersonally, i like your ceiling light. someone said table/floor lamps, which could be nice. and i'm almost certain these aren't your style, and i don't necessarily mean THESE, just what they do..... but you said you're having your table to one side and a nook on the other side, so where would you want the light?????...... i've seen these types in shops and restaurants, etc. they are kinda fun, but again, probably not what you're looking for in style (this is about angles).... but do you just want a light in the middle when nothing is there? :) good luck.
