Paint to look good with natural maple cabinetry.

My kitchen/ living room has natural maple woodwork that has yellowed over the years. I want a fresh new gray paint color on the walls. I can't seem to find anything that looks good with it. Any ideas?

Cool grays are hard to mix with warm wood tones - neither brings out the best in the other as you have found. Creams and whites work. If you want a color, some of the greens - even gray based ones might work. I like BM Dry Sage in the kitchen below - but it is helped by the large amount of cream tile. You could try a color like Dry Sage, but I think you would want to incorporate a lot of whites or creams in the room too.

Free yourself. Paint the cabinetry. Natural maple goes both yellow and pink. Time to get out from under that which probably looks a bit dated as well.? How 'bout some nice, clean white cabinetry and whatever you WANT on the walls? You might post a photo..........

Is it for your use - ie you are the tenant . Or is if for other to use - ie you are the landlord?? If for first - go for something not too big as you next home might be smaller. Chose a colour and style that either classic and won’t date that you’ll keep for years - or funky and up to the minute that’s cheaper and can be replaced when you tire if it. If you are the landlord, chose something that’s neutral colour and easy to clean -maybe with a second supplied set of covers, make sure these are easily available and inexpensive to replace for fresh tenants - think ikea !! Hi, I have severe chemical allergies (like 20-27% of the population), including to VOCs/all fragrances/botanicals/essential oils/many woods (i.e. especially allergic to: oxidised limonene & oxidised linalool), also chrome, nickel, and colophony/rosin (in terms of any direct skin contact to many glues/sealants). The VOC content is much lower in oak and ash woods (and at a pinch, beech), so I am fine with these if they have been kiln dried or I allow them to offgas first for 6-8 weeks before use / being in the same room as them. Other woods are unsafe for me (eg pine, cedar), as these contain high levels of oxidsed limonene. Emerging medical & scientific research seems to suggest that a high overall toxic burden in the body may be a significant if not predominant contributing cause to chemical allergies, including particularly cumulative and ongoing exposure to PFAS / flame retardants / toxic forever chemicals. Accordingly, I'm looking to replace household goods with ones without any: PFAS / toxic forever chemicals / flame retardants / Teflon / flame retardant-infused interliners. Keen to hear any brand recommendations in the UK (or importable from Europe) accordingly for: - Sofas / armchairs (the toughest to find safe alternatives for!!): Eg. Eco Sofa, Bespoke 180 degrees, any others in the UK.......??? Do you know of any PFAS & interliner-free, only natural materials, sofa brands in Europe which I might be able to buy for shipment to the UK (or buy in Europe and personally have shipped to the UK)? Which European countries most prohibit these, or in which European countries am I likely to be able to get the most information around products explicitly omitting these? - Mattresses (eg. Warren Evans, Button & Sprung, Snoozel Green (??), Cotton Safe, ... any others?) - Irons / Garment steamers (Philip's products appear to be full of them in the soleplates, and the company was very shady and evasive about this too). Any safe eg. Stainless steel soleplate ones anyone can confirm are free of all PFAS including internally? - Carpets: any natural fibre brands (eg pure wool) confirmed not to have any coatings/scotchguard treatments, also without PFAS in the backing? - Carpet underlay: Any brands without PFAS at all (does "Breathe" omit all PFAS? What about VOCs? - e.g.: https://trade.qaflooringsolutions.com/carpet-underlay/breathe/breathe-natural-wood-fibre-10mm-carpet-underlay ) - Does anyone make deck chair-style seating with removable / washable fabric but of a normal seating height & more upright for indoor use rather than low slung reclined outdoor beach use? - Any brand recommendations for natural oiled solid oak (or ash wood) furniture without any veneers, and with VOC-free glue & dovetail etc traditional joinery? Any recommended custom manufacturers who do the same? - Paints: I've already found safe solutions here, but for anyone else looking: Lakeland Paints, Little Knights, and Nordfarg are the only VOC-free UK paint brands I could find. Lakeland Paints also does colour matching brilliantly and has excellent customer service. Any brand recommendations in the above areas would be hugely appreciated!! :)))

think i'd prefer it natural (weathered) rather than that grey. if you want to paint it, the colour needs to be pulled from the stone you already have down. i feel like that grey is a bit too blue/green and the stone patio is more pink/purple. so either get more of a taupe grey (pink/purple undertones) or go to a darker charcoal to merge more with the fence (make it blend into the background and recede) or choose more of a beige colour so that it ties in with the stone better - something natural, stone coloured. Or choose a colour like green or pink or yellow to make more of a statement.

EVERY paint colour can be measured. All paint colours readily available on the high street belong to an identifiable Hue Family. This includes not just colourful colours, but all whites, blacks, greys, near neutrals too. It It’s the reason why paint companies can repeatedly make and match colours and ensure consistency. We just utilse that data to compare & contrast colours - in detail. NCS = the Natural Colour System. Dulux Pure Brilliant White is a colour from that palette. NCS S 0500-N. PPG is a huge American firm which owns Johnstones in the UK. Their colours are available via Johnstones & The Decorating Centre Online. Their colour PPG Delicate White/ Swansong is a great white for ceilings. More colourful than Pure Brilliant White, less colourful than colours like Pointing & Wimborne White. It hits a sweet spot. 🕊

I used Benjamin moore 'baby turtle' in my kitchen with classic maple cabinets...similar color to dry sage -- did it ten years ago and still love it

Here are some pictures of the area I am looking to paint. I already took down the decorations and window treatments and am ready to go! I would love to paint the cabinets but will wait a few years for that. Great suggestion though!

The cabinets are a total fight with the kitchen flooring. All the tones in adjacent room are cool, with the exception of the maple built in. All I can say at this point is take your family room paint can to the paint store, and have them custom mix you a color.......at one quarter strength of that paint formula. Or you are headed for a hodge podge.
