Bedroom furniture help!

Hi, I need help finding the perfect furniture for our bedroom. I didn't realise how expensive it could be (or how picky I am), to furnish a bedroom. I want two bedside cabinets and a proper dressing table. The dressing table seems to be the struggle. They nearly all have slim draws, but I want something that'll hold everything - all my electrical hair styles, hair products, make up, jewellery etc. I want a warm wood and something a little contemporary. I've spent days scouting the internet and shops. It's driving me bonkers. Thank you

Hi Laura. I can't find anything either other than some very expensive antique ones or not particularly nice ones :( Just a thought but why not get a dressing table you like with slimmish drawers for your makeup and then get an upholstered storage footstool for your hair stuff?

I love the mid-century desk in this picture, but it's expensive and probably not enough storage. I'm looking for something bigger like the waxed pine one

The ŵall looks great, I prefer it to your original choice! The chest of drawers look great pushed together. I wouldn't try going for a symmetrical layout. Hang the mirror where it is portrait with a lamp that's in between the sizes of the 2 shown (maybe a charcoal shade?) with a shorter vase of flowers etc on the rhs and some kind of decorative object in the middle ( a decorative horse's head might look good?!)

Hi Suzie, could you perhaps do something a bit out of the box and choose something that is a splash of colour? Like a found object? Chinese ceramic stools? you can also go to vintage fairs etc. Or some companies source and stock interesting pieces. I quite like the idea of timber for your chest of drawers etc. Difficult to visualise the space thought! Colour choice is pretty personal. I am partial to blues and purples.. but that is just me! Hi Lauren, we're too far away to be of too much help, but the product range we offer most office is theCrown Living / Lifespace range. They have a huge range of door colours/styles (Over 120 at last count!) in matts, gloss, sparkes, painted woods/woodgrains, metalics etc. and a very flexible system. We recently came up against Sharps, and our quote for a similar configuration/style was around half the price of Sharps. If you pick carefully your styles and mix of units, it can be very good value. You could find your local dealer at this link. Alternatively if you struggle to track down a dealer, we could quote for supply only and have delivered direct to you if you have your own fitter lined up, though obviously we are too far away to offer our usual levels of service.

Are you creative? Get some older brown furniture from an auction house and chalk-paint it - black and copper would be amazing. Well made and drawers tend to be roomy. Apart from your time in labour it would be cheap as chips ;)

Hi Laura - Appreciate the comment from teammarley16, you cannot beat old furniture as it tends to a bit larger in proportion to new designs.Wychwood Interiors past work I was trawling the net over the last 20 mins and found a link as follows -

It may not be to your taste but is definitely cost effective and has the lines. We have used chalk paint in the past, but tend to go for traditional paints having used "Little Green" and "Fired Earth" for durability. They have been very successful and we have received top reviews for our work.

Pitch your budget based on affordability and not emotional decisions. If something is purchased at the lower end in price it can be re-styled several times until you " really love it!". Part of the process is to experiment with colours. In your case maybe grey shades for the main carcass and black for the drawer fronts with contrasting knobs, or lighter contrasts if your bedroom is medium to small size.

Laura, it might be worth checking our Ebay or similar sites to see if there's something pre-loved that you can bring back to life? Getting a real bargain and something completely unique is always a great feeling, especially when you're on a budget.

The issue with up-cycled furniture is I work up to 80 hours a week - it won't get done. I bought a pine bedside cabinet in Ikea 3 months ago with the view of having a go at painting it, it's still in its box.
It's a north facing room, so I wanted to add some warmth with wood.
I have seen things I like, but will be ~£1,000 for three pieces of furniture. Would prefer to spend around half that.
I've been driving myself mad looking so I may take a break and wait for my partner to finish the built-in wardrobes.

Thank you for your comments. I was so fed up with looking but Homesense have come to my rescue (sort of). Now just need a dressing table to match/complement it. There's something VERY similar in Swoon, but with limited storage.

Furniture is now sorted. Dressing table to match bedside cabinets is now on order. Fitted wardrobes going in next week (my partner drew the line at me painting them the same as the walls so they're going to have to be white!).

I'm struggling to accessorise. Curtains aren't up yet, but I made the headboard out of an extra pair, so are the same colour. I tried buying mustard cushions and throws. But they just seemed too 'bright' and looked out of place. I was thinking of blush pink???? I'm stuck. I hate pink and I'm not a fan of pastels, but I do like the cushions :-) Will they work?

Why don't you just keep to the blue & white theme? Keep it simple ;-)
