Side house extention on a budget what materials should we look at?
Comments (5)Am wondering if it is worth your time adding an extension. Is the garage fully detached or does it have a shared wall with next doors? if the later you will need their permission and a party wall agreement. That will all add time and cost. The drain suggests that there are utilities under the drive: you cannot build on those without permission, though you can move them at your own cost. Also, how will you access the back garden if you extend over the drive? how wide is the drive? With insulation is it going to be worth adding a room as they will be tiny rooms. I would consider a rear extension to gain real space and knocking down the garage to keep garden space....See MoreTerraced house renovation, thoughts on changes to the floor plan.
Comments (3)Well, I made it all the way through. You've clearly given this a lot of thought and effort and yes, I really prefer the plan with the Hallway. It actually makes sense for all the rooms not just the lounge. The little corner is that you lose in the lounge by having the Hallway is fairly inconsequential, it just has an armchair in it, and it's and odd shape. So, making it a lovely square room is better. The whole house looks better with the Hallway. Can you change the window position in what I presume is the kitchen at the back? If you have a window on the far wall, you will see daylight, right through from front to back, giving a great visual of the space....See MoreWhere to start for our house renovation - help! ;(
Comments (11)Many thanks for all your comments. Really good food for thoughts. I had a few “loft specialist” quotes and we almost went for it. But the reason we did not is that all those specialist lofts companies were not willing to do the rest of the house (eg electric and plaster/painting in living room/dining room, installation of wooden floor in ground floor, reroofing...) so we would have to employ a separate company for this; which obviously make the project more expensive and not streamlined. I think our project is “small” but maybe it is not :) And does deserve a proper architect /design to start with... I will keep you updated ;)...See MoreRenovating basic home exterior - front style
Comments (2)Thank you for the feedback! Here more pictures to get a better idea :) I talked with an architect that advised me that changing the style is unlikely to be approved by the council if the house connected to a row of similar houses. In our case only ours and the next one are alike as you can see, there are the only new (there was an empty area at the end of the row) but attached to a row with classic red brick houses. So, I guess we will try to focus on minor changes to give it more personality. Window box planters, maybe improving windows and door, and I like ED suggestion of creating a nice front garden....See Morejoanna pearson
