What could we do with our hall...?
Comments (5)If something is tall and narrow then you want to pull the ceiling down by optical illusion. If it is very tall I would install a picture rail and bring the ceiling colour down the walls to the picture rail. I did this and now I find I want to put a wide hanging along one wall of my hallway so it is now practical as well as creating an optical illusion. Another way of achieving this is the dado rail at about 4 foot high. Then you can use two shades of the same colour the darker one at the bottom and the lighter one above. Richard Rumbelow's suggestions are another way of achieving this optical illusion. Your photograph suggests it is a Victorian building originally so these ideas would be in harmony with that....See MoreDo you have a cloakroom?
Comments (12)I'd love to go wild in my cloakroom, but I also have to store my Henry Hoover, steam mop, ironing board and a shed load of coats in there too! It drives me a bit bonkers. It's crying out for some gorgeous deep downpipe panelling and lovely owls of the world wallpaper, and a beautiful big mirror..... but instead I've got to figure out how to use every inch of space to hang coats and stored light bulbs, as well as having it as a useable toilet. My boys always seem to need to go at the same time :-D...See MoreDo I need an extractor fan in a cloakroom
Comments (5)The answer is, of course, it depends! Do you have a window in the cloakroom? If so, you can perhaps manage without and use the window to vent unpleasant odours, but even with a window, I would consider an extractor fan as you may not want the window open in the depths of winter, letting all your heat out. Without a window, you should have an extractor and, even with, I would tend to recommend installing one. Consider keeping the extractor on a separate switch, so you only use it when you really need it....See MoreCloakroom tile beading off white or off black?
Comments (25)I actually painted the beading in brilliant white (like the walls) gloss, but over time it yellowed. Annoyingly the same has happened to my other woodwork, doorposts etc in bathroom and toilet, as a result of lack of natural light....See Morebookworm987
