Struggling with utility/cloakroom layout
Comments (4)With a bit of careful planking - you could even get some daylight through from the right wall into the dining area too ! ( think glass pantry type doors with low integrated laundry units ?!)...See MoreWhich kitchen brand and appliances would you recommend?
Comments (21)Just to weigh in on the Howdens comments, the key is to make sure you know someone in the trade who can put you forward to them, that way you just get dealt with as a trade using their account. They do have sales on but generally speaking the price doesn't fluctuate much through the year, except when they have their big sale on which is usually October time. I do use Howdens and no, they're not perfect but most of the grumbles I hear are more to with customer service which don't fall in line with the glossy showroom kitchen providers. The quality of the kitchens is very good (25 year warranty iirc) so if you have access to them then do get a quote from them. I think what I would say is that if you go to Howdens, expect a slightly tradesman type relationship (the showrooms are far from impressive) but a key thing is that they hold stock on most items. If you get a damaged door for example, it can be replaced next day, try getting that out of Homebase....... With regard to appliances, we have SMEG in our kitchen and I'd never buy it again. Hobbs been fine, but three new ovens on warranty and whilst it now works fine, the previous two didn't. Previously we had Bosch for everything and it all worked faultlessly, so I can't recommend them enough....See Morestruggling with layout change
Comments (26)Just thought I’d update this with a new layout I’m trying, ha ha. It was still bugging me as it was originally so I moved the sofa back by the window as I had previously tried it and instead of having the table by the back wall - I put it in the middle of the room (well off centre) I also moved he glass drinks cabinet over by the rad which breaks up the large expanse of white. So far it feels a lot better. Lots of space around the sides and between the main sofa and table and window sofa and I get to sit and watch the garden birds properly during the day. Going to live with it for a few more weeks then if I decide I prefer it this way then will move some of the the spider lights over the table! (At the moment we hit them when we walk under, lol!) Overall I don’t really like the tub sofa (maybe because it’s black?) and think just two chairs would look better there but it’s something I can work on in the future. (Please ignore artwork on the walls - I’ve removed it all now until I decide what’s stating!)...See MoreTwo completely different kitchen layouts, which to choose?
Comments (16)When designing the kitchen have you thought about how you work in there? For example when the dishwasher door is open is it in the way of the place you are storing the dishes or do you have enough space between hob and sink as I find sink area gets filled with dirty dishes/pans. I spent quite a bit of time mentally working in my kitchen designs before finalising them as what looks good does not always work practically. We went for a Howden’s kitchen but not their design. We also went for drawers rather than cupboard because I used to find it annoying trying to get to things in the back of cupboards and as you get older opening a drawer and not having to bend down and peer in cupboards is great. I also agree that if you are going to spend any time in the kitchen that being able to look out over the garden makes for a much more pleasant working environment especially if you are washing up. When you are eating you are less likely to want to look outside as it will either be the evening or hopefully with company who you are focussing on. Also think about whether you will be cooking and socialising at the same time so may want to be able to talk to your guests easily without them having to stand in the kitchen with you or sit at the table/breakfast bar. Finally, do you really need a breakfast bar if you have a table in the kitchen?...See MoreDaisy England
