Love the MDF panelling where is it from?

Where did you source the fire-proof MDF please? Thanks

Hi, thank you for your comment. We made the paneling out of standard size sheets of MDF. The area behind the fire was made in the same way, but out of a fire-rated board. It was all decorated, so to the eye you would never tell the difference between the two materials.

It looks great. Thanks for the speedy response but my question was where did you buy the fire rated board? I have tried to source some but having no luck, so it would be really helpful to know the stockist. Thanks again.

Thank you plusmarcus. So my thought about the side panels was how do you decide where the bedsides go? Do they sit in the middle of the side panels or do they sit so that the two beads line up with the middle of the bedsides? If you put the bedside in the middle of the side panel they are too far from the bed. And if you put them so the beads are in the middle of bedside they are too close? With the original "B" photo I wondered how the proportions would work with bedsides. Would bigger bedsides in the same style as the bed work better? Sorry might just be my OCD, but where you have them now, for me, throws off the original proportions.

https://youtu.be/S5G1NG1UpfI This is one of the videos that I watched (over & over again). It briefly covers the measurements from about 1.50mins into the video. It’s basically; measuring the width of the room, subtract the total width of all the spaces/boarders then dividing it by the number of frames you want. I think anything from 600mm onwards works. Some go for slimmer, others go for wider, but again it’s whatever is works for your room & you. We ended going for two slim/side panels (I think 650mm) & a wider middle panel (I think 2100) - just because of the way our headboard. All the different panels look great. I personally wanted to add more depth on our wall so I decided to use 90mm thick MDF boarders (but make sure you have the same thickness decorative panels/frame), instead of just putting the frames on the wall. With regards to tips for the measurements, I saw / read somewhere (probably Pinterest or YouTube) that if you are going to have a bottom or lower rails / section (then your lower part should be at least a meter from the floor - I think that’s so chairs don’t scrape the rails. Regarding width I think whatever looks best in your room. Again what works best for your room. Ps I would also add that from a personal prospective leaving the same amount of room at the top/bottom/sides makes it look better. Sorry if any of that was like teaching you how to suck eggs. I’m very excited (perhaps too excited)😊This is literally the only thing that I’ve made since secondary school apart from a airing cupboard shelves. Normally I’d pay for someone else to do it. If thats over 500.00 for the 900x1200 panel then that's just taking the p***, i had a quick look on line and found a 900x1200 georgia marine panel at 117 plus delivery at https://www.onlinekitchensuk.co.uk/online-store/appliance-store/browse/brand/Kitchen-Stori/type/Panels/category/End-Panel/colour/Georgia-Marine/ but i would imagine this would be the same as you already have with unfinished edges on the 900 sides so you wouldn't be any further forward. Might be worthwhile giving them a call to check if its finished on all 4 edges. Have you asked your designer/supplier how they proposed finishing the sides of your island. 900 deep islands are pretty standard with base units and shallow depth units back to back and i would of thought a big company like Uform would have something for them. There is one other way of finishing your island i can think of but tbh its not a method I ever offer and that is getting four 715x447 doors and extra plinth. Fit 2 doors each side so they're dummy doors and you have the 3mm gap between the 2 doors so they look like a run of doors. Then you'll need to run plinth at the bottom, ideally the plinth would be set back 40mm so it looks the same as everywhere else (so legs would need to be set back) and then the plinth would have to mitred and glued together. Its not a look i like and its a lot of extra work.
