Great kitchen choice...I love it!

Unless I'm very much mistaken it will be very hard to find an end panel that size and in the right colour.

I know colour-matching is known to be inaccurate but I would reconsider it. It might be the best choice. I found this thread on Houzz...have a look and see what you think https://www.houzz.co.uk/discussions/4667036/who-colour-matches-paint-the-best.

Wow, that colour is simply gorgeous and stunning. Love it.

We sell kitchens and have to confess I haven’t seen anything like it, nor have I seen it as a board in Egger or Pfeiderer.

Update - alabaster painted oak units, oak worktop, (curved end units and worktop corners) belfast sink, 1100 stainless steel rangemaster porcelain large high gloss ivory 600x600 floor tiles, ivory grout - please see attached look book just still to decide on shade of sage on walls - deciding between F&B Mizzle, Vert De Terre, Ball Green and Cooking Apple Green... Also metro sub/way tiles on walls - whether to go for a sage tile or cream/white... The dining room area off the kitchen will have oak parquet floor which will follow through from hall and will also be in the lounge but Im thinking of following the wall colour in the kitchen through to the dining room for continuity and potentially painting the chimney brest or wall furthest away from and facing the kitchen a darker green complementary colour... Thoughts please

Hello Colourwise Design, Thought I would give you a visual of what I had meant. I have used Jonathan's drawing as I use sketchup personally for spatial drawings in 3D. However this means you get to see the same kind of view though with his design and scale. Also offers me the chance to show you how the materials can effect the overall appearance as I have deliberately chosen a material colour to blend with the flooring (or as close to so you can see what is solid) which can be done in a myriad of ways so things appear less solid and thus give a more open room configuration ... Have copied Jonathan's chairs which I have slid under a little more. So you have flow and a very simple configuration which does not hinder the exit to the garden which I think you will want to retain personally. So it could be that the first section houses sink, dishwasher. FF could be in left corner where room opens out? Hob could be at dining end. So cook and serve idea. This also allows for the additional room where the area widens. You still have flow between task oriented routes ie sink to ff and ff to hob etc. Making use of height with a single width double ff and perhaps considering a wall oven and some wall hung cupboards on that wall to the right of the image. The dresser might be able to situate to the right of the window on the left of the image. Down draft on hob or overhead extraction and ceiling hung pans or a section underneath hob for pans etc.. So this idea could either be solid with build in cupboards which I would propose have sliding doors or at dining end taper off into a table top.. Its a quick rework to show you what I had envisioned as I saw it. Re the door in to kitchen, perhaps consider a door that is sliding for example a pocket door. : ))

Wow, I had to make a cup of tea for this one. Orange and red are your two main colours here (copper, wood, worktops and red items) and yes, green or blue/green is the complementary, but there are a million options and they don't need to be saturated. At the moment the red and green are fighting for attention so the new wall colour needs to be 'quieter'. If you want to show the true beauty of the copper, then I would avoid strong colours and go for something moody. I would paint most of the walls a cool pale neutral and then go for one wall in a punchy edgy colour that complements the red without having a fist fight with it. It could be a cool neutral with Mouses Back (which looks fabulous with red). My favourite edgy colour is Little Greene 'Light Bronze Green" 123 which I have in my kitchen with Skimming Stone - see below (and image 2 with red picture). Does any of that make sense?

@Carolina I like the colours in the photo you've shared, they look more neutral than grey which is what I want. Do you know what colours they might be? To give you more of an idea of the space this photo is taken from the kitchen end of the room facing away from the kitchen and I've added Amitco Blonde Oak added using their clever room visualiser (we want a wood effect LVT which brings warmth to the room) . You can see we do have the dark framed doors (anthracite grey) which might help tie in a dark island, although they are some distance away. Was also thinking of going dark blinds in the bay window, such as these double roller in iron grey. But maybe better going for Navy if we went with @Juliet Docherty's suggestion of Basalt 221 We're having Quartz worktops and wanted to keep it white with a subtle vein, so something like this. This was my attempt at a mood board which I put together many months ago when starting the project.

Thanks. I'm not sure what to do. On another forum someone said

"Your issue will be the 15% semi matte finish that they use - it will be sprayed and potentially has a binder / flatting agent in the paint which will change the overall finish".

So I'm at a loss. On the other end of the island which is kind of only seen if at the sink they cut two 600 end panels but there is an obvious join.

I have another two 600mm end panels but the part of the island they would go on can be seen as soon as you walk in and I really don't want to see the join as it looks awful.

So I really need a 900 x 900. It's so annoying as the kitchen cost a small fortune.

@victoria , thanks but they still would need to cut that size down to. Are a 900 x 900 panel. So would require a join.

So I'm not sure where this now leaves me.

Is the worktop already bought & fitted? If not, I was also going to suggest a waterfall worktop or wondered whether a bookcase could fit on the end instead of a panel? Otherwise, if your kitchen has any metallic elements (e.g brass handles), is there some kind of metallic strip to cover the join so it looks more intentional / part of the design?

@taml75 yes it is already fitted apart from the end panel. I never thought of a waterfall as an idea so could they now just get a 900x900mm piece of oak to match the worktop. Maybe that would work.

@oneplan I did ask about two 450mm panels but for some reason it wasn't an option.

Does the countertop edge stick out enough to fit a piece of it underneath?

Otherwise order two 450x900mm doors and stick m on yourself. Not an option? Twats..

@rinked thanks and yes there is enough overlap for the oak option. But it's really frustrating.

I have just been quoted £250 for a 900x900 colour match in MDF. Not sure I really wanted to pay that much.

Could you make a feature of the join instead of trying to conceal it and failing? Maybe a brass or stainless steel detail between the two panels? Something to match the other detailing in the kitchen?

If you can make the waterfall oak work I think that might be the best option as it would be a deliberate feature, which is always better than a cover up!

Otherwise any possibility of getting a sample of the colour match to see how well it goes? As the end panel is a separate piece from the doors and is mostly around the corner from them, you might find even if the colour is not an exact match, it is not noticeable due to the way the light falls differently on the doors compared to the end panel.

Alternatively are 300mm doors available if 450mm doors are not? 3 of those might look quite tidy and deliberate (like a miniature version of the one in the link you sent). You might have an issue with the plinth though then, as the doors would not reach the floor, so your plinth would have to go around a corner which the fitters might grumble about if you don't have the corner posts in the photo.

I just had another thought while making my cup of tea! Does it matter which way round they put the end panel? What if they ordered the 900mm x 1200mm end panel, stood it on end so it was too tall but the correct width, and then carefully cut the top 300mm off it and put that raw edge up under the worktop where it would not be seen?

Victoria and Alice are quite right, uform have a 900x1200 panel as part of this range and as you don't have a woodgrain, this panel could be used vertically and scribed to the floor. so the cut would then be sealed to the floor and you'd have your 870 ish tall by 900 wide panel. We do that quite often especially with gloss kitchens if we can't get panels made to size (some of our suppliers can do this). Another way round this is using T&G panels and we would hide the joint in the V groove.

Doors wouldn't work though, as it might say its a 900x450 door, thats the size of cabinet it fits, the actual size would be smaller at 895x446 so it would only be 892mm wide.

@Lifestylekitchens Thank you, its a real shame my supplier didn't recognise this as I should not be the one looking for a solution.

I have people that would cut it.

I believe we did have a board that was 1200mm width and height was 900mm. The top and bottom were not marine, only the sides.

I'm not clear how in that case it can be put in place without the bad edges showing if cut as one piece.

It would be fine if it was 1200mm high and width was 900mm as it could be cut and the bad edges hidden by the floor and worktop.

Maybe I'm missing something. 🤔

If it is not finished in the correct colour on the long edges then I agree, you cannot use it - is that your understanding too @Lifestyle Kitchens?

@Alice Clare Studio @Lifestyle Kitchens Thanks so much. Maybe I am wrong as I have a panel which is 640 x 900 and all the edges are marine, so I assume that would be the same for the 1200.

I think maybe the fitters messed up and cut up the 1200 and used it on the wrong end, as only one end is 900 x 900.

The issue I have now is ordering it, my partner phoned Uform and they don't supply to the public.

@Victoria My partner is going to try today, not every business is transparent with where they source them from so it might not be easy. Our kitchen has been a little confusing as it appears it may have been put together from various suppliers. I only know that because we asked the delivery driver where he was from, and it wasn't Uform but the touch up paint we were given is Uform. So I'm not sure how it all works.

I'm not complaining as I totally love the kitchen.

Alice is correct, if the 2 long edges aren't finished then its no use for rotating it and standing up, had a look at the uform website and you can download their tech spec for this kitchen range and they do have another island decor panel at 910x2430 so you could ask if this is finished on the 2 long sides and if it is then that could be used (but being 910mm wide the island units would need to be packed out a bit if the worktop hasn't been fitted) and there would be enough left over to do the other side of the island, I don't use Uform so I haven't the information.

If your worktop hasn't been fitted yet then Uform also have pilaster posts, a square shaped modular post and a curved quadrant end moulding, if you had these at each corner fitted flush to the door front then the 900*1200 panel (but you'd need 2 panels so its the same both sides or just 910x2430 cut in half) and then the cut edge would be hidden against the finished edge of the pilaster. Thats the only way I can see to get round it.

@Lifestyle Kitchens Thank you. I downloaded the spec and it looks like all sides are painted. As we can't order direct I think we may well end up paying a higher price compared to getting one spray painted.

Our work top has been fitted, the only thing left is this end panel.

If thats over 500.00 for the 900x1200 panel then that's just taking the p***, i had a quick look on line and found a 900x1200 georgia marine panel at 117 plus delivery at https://www.onlinekitchensuk.co.uk/online-store/appliance-store/browse/brand/Kitchen-Stori/type/Panels/category/End-Panel/colour/Georgia-Marine/ but i would imagine this would be the same as you already have with unfinished edges on the 900 sides so you wouldn't be any further forward. Might be worthwhile giving them a call to check if its finished on all 4 edges.

Have you asked your designer/supplier how they proposed finishing the sides of your island. 900 deep islands are pretty standard with base units and shallow depth units back to back and i would of thought a big company like Uform would have something for them.

There is one other way of finishing your island i can think of but tbh its not a method I ever offer and that is getting four 715x447 doors and extra plinth. Fit 2 doors each side so they're dummy doors and you have the 3mm gap between the 2 doors so they look like a run of doors. Then you'll need to run plinth at the bottom, ideally the plinth would be set back 40mm so it looks the same as everywhere else (so legs would need to be set back) and then the plinth would have to mitred and glued together. Its not a look i like and its a lot of extra work.

@Lifestyle Kitchens Thank you. We did phone them and they are finished all the way around, so it will work.

We don't have an 1200 x 900 now as the fitter cut it up and used it at the other end leaving the obvious join. I wish we had used the kitchen supplier to fit it but sadly was persuaded by the builders to let their team fit it. Big mistake as it voided my guarantee, so hence the situation.

The £500 I mentioned wasn't for the end panel but for the minimum order on some companies

Thanks for that link, my partner actually spoke to that company today and they were really helpful. I think the one we need is the 900 x 1200 x 18mm Plain End Panel which is £151.32

I think we are just going to have to do that. The kitchen is wonderful so highly recommend it, just be careful who fits it.

Thats great, their webite price might be out of date (been so many price increases this year), when it arrives just check it carefully as couriers are a nightmare with damage.

So many people think they can fit a kitchen but its that extra attention to detail (and using the right bits) that really makes the difference.

@Lifestyle Kitchens Actually I was mixed up, the website link you posted is indeed cheaper but have a minimum order of £500,00,

The online company my partner spoke to are https://www.ckkitchens.com/acatalog/Georgia-Marine_Kitchens_Stori_Uform-p1.html

They don't have a minimum order.

We will phone https://www.onlinekitchensuk.co.uk on Monday as it's cheaper, to see if they will do a one off without spending the £500,00

At least I feel I have moved on from where I was, so thank you for all your help.

Having done an extension and the kitchen, it's been a real eye opener, lots of lessons learnt, just a shame they have been costly.
