Hi this is my kichen i hate the oak coloured cabinets and finally made a choice to have them painted professionally. Thinking of having them painted in white/off white, however neef to keep the black worktop. Before i do i need to consider what to do with the handles i dont really like them but need something that doesnt invole drilling new holes any suggestions. Also thinking of getting rid of the tiles and have it painted but not sure whether to change the splashback the fan hood is actually more narrow than the hob so how could i tile it so doesnt look weird, what tiles would go well. i like the kitchen to look light and airy. Any other suggestions

Comments (4)Hi Mary - we've looked at a ton of options on Houzz since my wife wanted a red backsplash as well (it'll be another 8-12 months before we're at that stage of our renovations). I think we'll end up going with a white subway tile and 1 1/4" red glass tile lines in between to avoid the red from overpowering the room. Comments (1)Beautiful design and very practical. I just got an idea that it would be even more practical if it had an L shape kitchen island. Cook top on one side and the space for preparing food on the other side. It would also create a semi closed space for a cook between the island and the window. 7 years agothanks due to budget constaints i need to keep the worktop plus its been a compromise with my hubby as he likes the kitchen but agreed to change whatever i want except cabinets and worktop (taken me 2 years to achieve this). i thought since i am getting the units painted might as well fix the wall as i dont think tiles in the whole area is needed was debating whether to leave the steel splashback or to replace it with tiles but i may be wrong, maybe if i post some of my inspiration pics it might help you all to understand what i am after what handles would you suggest

7 years agoI would try and remove that hob splashback altogether - it really throws off the look for the rest of the space. Here's a mock up in a very slightly off white. I'd suggest getting white/off white accessories, a colourful kilim style flatweave rug (so you can stick it in the washing machine when needed) and maybe some plants to inject more character.
I also think if you don't like the handles then its not much extra work for the painter to fill the holes first then you can choose whatever handles you'd like. Personally I think satin nickel cup handles for the drawers with round knobs for the cupboards would look good.

7 years agoHi I recently had my kitchen painted to update it and was looking to achieve a similar style to you and also have a black worktop. I've attached a pic. I recommend you change the handles it will make a bit difference to achieving the style you are looking for. If you can't fill and drill, I'm sure the tradesman who paints your kitchen can do it as part of the job. I got the handles from the handle studio website - 36 cost my £86 in total I thought that was great value. Agree with others your tiles prob won't look bad once cabinets painted. You need to decide first though, as I had mine replaced with more tiles and needed to do it first due to the level of mess. Good luck.

7 years agothank you all Lisa your kitchen look lovely, lauren tha ks for like prefer it to keeping my current tiles thats helped me to make the decision to change splashback and tiles. think i am only tiling the hob splashback area. like the traditional white metro tiles what do you all think on the below ones would they work
