Does the hardware have a track on the bottom or just the top?

We have a similar door hanging in our basement and it hangs/slams a lot on the trim. Do you have any suggestions of how to fix it? Should we put a track along the bottom?

The barn doors we install have guides at the bottom that keep it parallel to the wall. This guide serves as a stop to keep the door from slamming into the jamb/trim. There are typically stops integrated into the over head track hardware as well.

That's what I thought. We have a stopper at the top, but nothing at the bottom and the door swings too far away from the wall. Thank you for the quick reply!

Has your builder considered a pocket door? They can be bought easily now from screwfix or a Eclisse. If you have space internally inside the wc or externally in the hallway a false wall is built using a metal stud work frame. A sliding door is top hung on a track inside the false wall, the door slides within the cavity within Just remember the preferred distance from a wc (centred ) to side wall is approx 450mm

If you don't physically need a handrail on that side you could just rebuild the wall at that point, only to about 18 inches high topped off with as wide a board as you can fit. Then you could use it to display something, put those things on that are waiting to go upstairs, or a perch when you have loads off guests, family or grandchildren around. Another way round the problem, but probably too late for you now, is to build the bottom couple of steps from a different material, say tile or stone to match a floor if the rest is to be carpeted, and start the newel/handrail at the changeover point.

Thank you all so much for your input. Really do appreciate it. (AS - unfortunately the loo has to be on the side nearest the riser that holds the waste pipes - but thank you for taking the time to do the plan). I should probably have mentioned that the shower will be a rainfall one and the pressure isn't great - so it's not a really powerful shower that would definitely flood. What I am looking into now is perhaps a slightly recessed shower tray - harder for water to go up right?! rather than ugly built up sides. A bit like this image bit recessed shallow tray.

Apologies for the radio silence. My wifi has been down. Thank you Carolina for your input. You are all so giving of your time. I think I've finally settled on elements of all of the ideas, but would really appreciate some final input, if you can visualise what I am trying to get across. The "down time" has given me some space to reflect and also to look at furniture. I dragged my other half to DFS and Sofology this weekend, much to his dismay! :) I'm looking at moving the door, as suggested by MATH to the other side of the support wall. That would give a bigger expanse for the TV to sit on a nice big unit, more central along that wall. With a big Loch Leven sofa from DFS in charcoal leather along the opposite wall. I'm thinking of the small Joules Windsor (DFS) in yellow velvet for in front of the bay. This would give us ample seating around the telly. I'll still have enough room for 2 big comfy fireside chairs in charcoal velvet, a square charcoal leather pouffe and a coffee table. I have dark stripped floorboards and so will probably have white walls, big monochrome prints on the walls and lots of scatter cushions to bring colours together. I know you have all been so generous with your time and ideas so far. What do you think of this plan?
