Advice on patio/deck from extension onto garden
Comments (7)Have you chosen your indoor tiles yet? There are a few tiles on the market these days that are suitable for both indoor and outdoor. If you have chosen your indoor tiles, would they also be the right colour for outside, and what is their 'cleanability' / longevity for not gathering moss etc ? I think for me, hardwood decking would suit the house as would big slabs. So it's down to personal choice. Smaller slabs may look a little dwarfed outside with such a good size of garden. Slabs will look great sat on top of brick steps. Can I see the outside there being clad in timber due to all the horizontal lines on the plan? If so, then decking would not be my first choice as it would potentially clash with the cladding. You may also end up looking like you have a great big wooden log cabin with the cladding and decking. So, I think for a traditional look, to tie in with the style of house, it would be large slabs on brick to match those in the house already....See Morefront of house and porch steps
Comments (6)I think this picture of where the mortar joints marry up does show the bricks are the same size so no worries there. But I agree they are slightly different colours. Your solution of painting a small band at the bottom Doesn’t seem to address the problem. You can get a brick tint to deepen the colour of bricks and I would investigate this first. If you did decide to paint the brick on the whole of the front face of the extension then I think an almost black colour looks great- although I think you should photoshop it first to see if white stands better in your street and helps your front door stand out. As far as the front step I think you just need to rip it out and start again. In my opinion the curve is not as contemporary a choice as the front door and windows and the replacement step would likely be square. As far as material for the front step I would clean the drive- see what colour it comes up and then choose something to complement it. In my opinion redbrick drives don’t sit well in front of red brick houses and if it turns out to be red I might stain the drive grey and then have a slate front step....See MoreSteps inside rear extension or steps down to garden instead?
Comments (20)Does anybody have photographs of steps down to rear extension? My plan is to have a side entrance into a large hallway with steps down to the rear extension. Not sure whether to knock the wall down also the create a inside balcony and maintain the Hallway ceiling height in to the extension. The extension would be living / kitchen / dining area. If anyone has any photographs of similar projects to help me visualise it, that would be wonderful. thank you!...See MoreHelp with design of steps from exterior french doors to garden/patio
Comments (1)My sister’s extension is almost complete. Outside she has had the patio raised up to meet the sliding doors (no step) and at the end of the patio she has had a set of steps leading down to another seating area. It’s all plain concrete at the moment until she has it paved. So in effect there are no awkward steps immediately from the house door. Hope that make sense?...See Morederekt5
