Houzz photo of wardrobe in small bedroom

Hi all,

I saw a photo on Houzz a while back and now I can't find it (I thought I'd saved it but apparently not...) I'm hoping some of you lovely people know which one I'm talking about and can remember which article it is in...

It was about use of space in compact rooms, and this specific photo was a bedroom with a tall wardrobe on either side of the bed, and each wardrobe had a hole/space right through the middle (effectively cutting the wardrobe in half) that could be used as a bedside table...

Does that ring any bells for anyone???! Long shot I know...

Sorry that it has taken a while for me to respond. I assumed that I would be notified if anyone was kind enough to comment on my post. Still learning how to use this app! Jonathan, thanks very much for your advice. I think you are right . The logical spot to place the wardrobe is on the long wall at the far end from the window which means that it will be opposite the door. I am not sure about having two wardrobes. My concern is that it may make the room too furniture heavy and a bit claustrophobic. My preference is for a spacious feel. Maybe it is not possible to accommodate all my clothes without the room being over stuffed with wardrobes. Ooof!

Hi Jo. Love your scheme I think it will look gorgeous! Personally I think a bit of real wood would look great against the blue and add a natural element (need to be a bit careful against the pink though!). I saw this pair of beauties in a charity shop, probably not quite right but I think it would be worth following your instincts and holding out for what you wanted rather than going for second best. Everyone is in such a hurry to have everything finished and perfect immediately but a house, style and furniture evolve over time, so if you can be patient and deal with clothes elsewhere for a bit you may get your dream cupboards! Good morning, It may be worth measuring the room and uploading a plan, so that Houzz designers can properly assess the room and provide an accurate layout for you. Get some measurements of walls, windows and doors, as well as the ceiling height.

I like Jonathon’s first drawing for a couple of reasons. You can have a walk in wardrobe for all the hanging clothes, which can end up looking a bit messy, and have the more traditional type of wardrobe for items that can be boxed up, such as handbags and shoes, and folded clothes / drawer items. I think a walk in wardrobe is better without a window as natural light can fade clothes, so much better to have a bright bathroom with 2 windows. Finally, as you’re building the internal walls from scratch you could look into having a pocket door system into the en suite thereby preventing a swinging door getting in the way of either the wardrobe or the shower.
