Frameless sliding patio door manufacturer in the north east

I am looking for frameless(thin) sliding patio door in my kitchen and living extension. Does anyone knows the manufacturer in the north east UK?

There is no right or wrong answer - and as suppliers and installers of award winning bifold AND sliding door systems we have no bias towards one or the other. When we get asked this question by customers there are a number of initial things we would ask to try and make some recommendations - and we have written a blog all about these. Probably the most valuable question is how often are you likely to have the doors fully open. Our SF55 aluminium bifold doors can be manufactured up to 1.1m wide and have an industry leading narrow sightline of 115mm (the amount of frame visible when closed) and over a 7m run of 7x1m panels you will have 6 intermediate frames totalling 690mm of aluminium. We do two aluminium sliding door systems the Grand Slider (83mm sightlines) or our award winning theEDGE (narrow 24mm sightline) - both can take glass sizes of up to 3m wide so over a 7m run of 3x2.33m panels you will have 166mm of intemediate aluminium visible with the Grand Slider and just 48mm visible with theEDGE. So if your doors are closed more often than open there is significantly less frame than glass in sliding doors, however the trade off is that unless you opt for a pocket slider you are not able to open a sliding door completely to create a total 7m opening like you are with bifold doors - you would only open 4.66m of the 7m (or 5.25m if you went for four sliding door panels). In terms of thermal performance both SF55 and the sliding door systems can be double or triple glazed and achieve pretty similar U-Values and in terms of price the SF55 and Grand Slider systems work out to be almost identical - although theEDGE is a bit more because of the advanced engineering required to create such a narrow profile. Fiona - I’ve been looking into replacing some doors with Crittal style and have contacted loads of suppliers and companies. The one that I’ve been most impressed with is the company mentioned above by Lou Valdini - Merlin Windows in Yorkshire. (I’m in the East Midlands). They gave me a competitive quote really quickly and then I got a quote from the fitter mentioned. (They fit across the UK and they link in with Merlin to ensure timings etc). It’s likely that we will go ahead in the next few months. (Just need to convince husband as he prefers chunky timber 😂)

I have just had Cortizo 4700 3 track sliding sash doors fitted and am astounded that they are fabricated with internal drainage holes on the internal side of the threshold track which results in excessive condensation on the internal threshold track and bottom of the sash frame and window pane. Cortizo are fobbing me off saying its condensation caused by generalised atmospheric conditions which is rubbish because, as an experiment, I plugged these internal drainage holes and the cold air flow and condensation was eliminated. I don't know how Cortizo can make claims about thermal efficiency and air tightness etc when these internal drainage holes simply permit freezing cold air flow from the outside to the inside and cause condensation issues in the immediate area of these opern apertures. See photos If anyone can suggest an alternative sliding door system which does not have internal drainage holes, please let me know.

Problem with bifolds (Vs sliders or just a pair of doors) is the amount the opening is blocked when the bifolds are open. Most of the time you will only be opening one door for entry/exit. This is why we went for French doors made from a bifold door frame - to minimise the frame thickness when open. You also lose a wall which could/would otherwise have furniture against it. So it's worth asking whether you want a wall of bifold or actually want a wall of glass. In which case you could achieve it by (say) part being a door of your choice, and part being stub wall with glass above and (for example) window seat. Also, control the airflow from the room which has the glass doors and the rest of the house. This helps stop it being to breezy when you have the doors fully open. Not cold in winter - but they are triple glazed and the rest of the room is highly insulated. Picture shows the view with our doors open Wall of glass? Yes. Large removable section of glass? Yes. Bifolds? Not necessarily.
