Small Bedroom with Indigo Blue?
Hi all, we bought a new house and below is our spare room. My partner and I can't agree on what to do with the wall that has currently the wall paper on it. We will not keep the wallpaper and would like to either paint this wall by Dark Blue (Dulux Atlantic Surf 1 - my choice) or mild grey (Chic shadow from Dulux). He thinks if we paint the wall in dark blue the room will look/feel really small. Its a small room (3.3m x 2.8m). Below is an example of what I am going for. Any opinions please?! Thank you.

Comments (15)Hi Catherine. If you feel the furniture is obtrusive you could try painting with annie Sloan chalk paint in an old white. No prep work is needed so it's easy. The neutral carpet should work with most colours. As Jonathan has said it's best to decorate a room that will grow with her to minimise future costs although 11 year old girls quite often want a grown up room! Duck egg might be a good choice or a more grown up hot pink or chalk pink (just a little hot pink though!). Or you could continue with creams and taupe and accessorise in other colours. Comments (6)Hi, Like your colour choice but possibly the palest of pinks may be worth a consideration. I've had peach for years and it really is a dated look (or am I just sick of the sight of it? Possibly) Lighting is what we do best, but I thought I'd chip in as I've recently been inspired by a lovely colour combination that's on my wish list. You'll find it in our lovely blog article. Comments (13)If you’re looking for dark blues, look at Craig and Rose’s Payne’s Grey. Despite the name it is actually the most beautiful shade of deep blue with a hint of grey. I spent months agonising over blues but then got fed up in lockdown and got the Payne’s Grey, despite worrying that it would be too grey for such a dark corner. it is the perfect colour, and I’m looking forward to using it on walls elsewhere. 6 years agoI disagree, as soon as you introduce a plainer theme, regardless of colour it will look like a larger room. In fact, using one dark wall, and the rest light and airy, makes the light walls look larger.

6 years agoHi, just to throw in a couple more options, had you thought about the fireplace wall in the blue with the other walls white/neutral? By doing this it will trick the eye into making it look wider. Only problem with this is a white bed and headboard will then look lost on a white backdrop so to balance this you could use a section of colour (blue) behind the headboard. This could be anything like a block of colour with clever use of masking tape, some fabric stapled to some plywood, drapes on a curtain rod, etc.
The other option is to, like above, just emphasize the headboard with a block of colour floor to ceiling with the use of masking tape but keep the rest of the walls pale. This way you still get the feature wall but won't get the narrowing effect if you painted the whole wall in a dark colour. Hope this makes sense. Here's some pics that might help.
