Made. com outlet or supplier?

Hello
Wonder if interior designers might know who supplies or offers ex display of Made.com furniture?
I saw something for sale and the seller told me she sources from a supplier who deals with made dot com's ex display or outlet items. But the pice is still high if it's ex display, and I'd rather find the outlet store myself!

Can any super sleuths help?

So you chose to install a wood burning stove, and you dream of curling up in front of it with a soft fluffy blanket, a good book, and maybe some wine. It has been installed, serviced and is ready to go. You have been told how to turn it on and off, how to take care of the fire and how to ensure your home remains smoke free. There is just one little problem. You have no idea what kind of wood to burn. Here at Hearth of the Home we have put together a basic guide to get you started and on the right track. The most important factor you need to learn is the difference between a good burning log and a bad burning log. When wood is cut down its cells are full of water, this is called “green wood”. When you burn this the wood wastes heat by making steam and producing tar which creates lots of smoke whilst damaging your stove and chimney. In order to avoid this, logs must be “seasoned”- dried out to a maximum of 15-20% water- which involves splitting them to expose the insides and leaving them in a well-ventilated dry place for about a year. This log will then give roughly double the heat per kg and will produce far less smoke. A good way to test whether a log is good for burning or not is: -- Good Wood Will feel dry Will have a hollow sound when tapped Will usually be free from bark Often has cracks in the end where it has dried out Will burn easily and cleanly Will usually have been split Will usually measure about 100-200mm across -- Bad Wood May feel damp or dense, have moss or mould. Will have a dull sound when tapped May have bark firmly attached May be solid and free from radial cracks May be round, possible with leaves attached. Will hiss, spit and smoke when burned May be in big pieces There are two ways of you getting seasoned wood to use in your new stove. The first way is to do this yourself, make sure you have a suitable area where they can stay dry, and remember that it will take a very long time before they are ready. The second is to buy it from a good log supplier, the best way to find this is to go through an accreditation scheme such as Woodsure. This is an audit of whether the logs are really as dry as the supplier claims, making sure you do not get ripped off. I was just like you Emme but took it to the next stage! I went on YouTube and found some really helpful videos, bought a kit from eBay and had a go! Made a batch filled my little tins and gave them out at Christmas. Lot of faff really and not a cheap hobby unless you were thinking of going into business I would stick to buying them from someone who is already kitted up to do them. You need to invest a lot of time and funds to really impress. But please don't let me put you off just speaking from experience!

I feel your frustration, as I too, find many items that I would love to use in my renovations that are from the US and can not find here in the UK. That's where I find knowing a good joiner or carpenter comes in handy. All the best.

Good quality and cheap don't really sit that easily together I am afraid. Forzaitala is right in that you can get cheap sandstone for the price she indicates. Beware though as the cheaper stuff is often softer and absorbs more water. The softness doesn't mean it will wear out, but it does mean that it will also absorb stains more easily as well as water. The water also means that it is easier for algae to grow and penetrate the surface of the stone and for dirt to be ground in. This makes it much harder to clean. People tend to forget that patios do need at least an annual jetwash and if the surface gets dirtier more quickly then you have to increase this frequency. Another thing to remember about the cost of the stone is that this only represents a small part of the patio cost unless you are laying it yourself. A patio costs around £200-220 per square meter laid and so labour makes up a large part of the cost. Similarly as Forzaitala says, uncalibrated stone gets very expensive to lay because the sub-base has to take account of the different thicknesses of each paver - so avoid it unless you are looking for something like reclaimed old Yorkstone. Cheap stone can also be a false economy in other ways too - I recall a client who sourced cheap stone only to find that it wasn't quite flat and so had lots of trip hazard edges and places for water to pool when it had been laid. A word of warning on concrete slabs. The cheaper they are the worse they will be - this is both in appearance and wearing. After a few years small bits of concrete wear away and you can see the gravel that was in the mix standing out - looks horrible. Finally - don't forget outside Porcelain - can be cost effective and very hard wearing and easier to clean. A good supplier for the South East is London Stone, or CED nationally.
