Patio problem
Comments (20)That is a really good point. I had considered wooden planters either the side of steps at the bottom but your idea is brilliant. You are right the steps are different heights and quite dangerous. Many thanks. I think I need to spend tomorrow pulling out weeds and having a good think....See Moreurgent help - layout for patio tiles!
Comments (21)Quick Q ... they use a resin for pointing so we don’t get weeds growing through (yay!) but I have a choice of natural (too light), grey or black. The tiles are black limestone which actually look mid grey but darker slightly when sealed and can look black when wet. The grey resin isn’t very dark. Black might be too harsh. Any thoughts??...See MoreI'm looking for a multi-stemmed tree to plant directly into patio
Comments (3)Hello, I really like both Sonia’s suggestions. What way does the patio face? And do you know what kind of soil you have? As you are planting directly into a patio these will be important as you want a tree that will be happy as if it fails it will be a pain to get out! One thing first: newly planted trees need lots of water, and this is especially true if it is planted in a patio so will get limited rain: so make sure you include a watering tube that will deliver water right to the roots. I would suggest: 1: Amelanchier. Lovely tree that is easy to keep under control and delivers visual interest year round. 2: Cornus controversa. The wedding cake tree. Lovely open form - not sure I’ve seen it as a multi-stem, but even as a standard it stays quite small. 3: some form of cherry. Again, these are reasonably easy to keep small, and have beautiful bark that will look great with lighting. Also lots of year round interest....See MoreWhere to buy slate tiles/slabs for fireplace?
Comments (7)I’m not sure it’s slate In those pictures, but, like you, I wanted a natural stone rustic finish for my fireplace, I used Indian Sandstone which comes in so many shades. The slabs are available from some garden centres and most builders merchants and are often used in the garden. They come in a rustic riven finish, or a smooth calibrated finish for a more modern look. Global Stone have loads and you can search their website for local stockists. There is an excellent supplier called The Rockery in Gamlingay, Beds, just off the A1 if that’s near you? This is mine...See MoreJonathan
