Induction cooktop with pop up vent

Would like to put induction cooktop on island. Only venting would be pop up downdraft vent. Our kitchen is over the utility section of the basement. Is there a way to install the motor/blower in the basement. I was hoping this would reduce the noice level in the kitchen and free up cabinet space? Thank you.

Wolf framed conduction cooktops can be used with a pop up ventilation unit and in-line blower mounted in the utility room and then ducted to the outside. Refer to page 88 in their Design Guide

Yes, we have! Got a fancy Neff induction hob and with the integrated extractor with a recirc set-up and then an externally venting extractor up on the ceiling neatly tucked away. This got us the coveted building regs sign off and works for us. The (isolator) switch for the fan is at worktop level so easy to whack on when you’re cooking up a storm and want some extra extraction. But tbh we haven’t used ours much, the in-hob one is fine! The extractor is white and really low-profile so it blends into the ceiling, plus it’s closed until you switch it on, so no unsightly venty parts on display day-to-day Let me know if you’d like to see pics...

Ive had two Bora Basics so far. Both times when purchasing ive looked at the competition and other options. If im honest the Bora represents value for money compared to those other options. Especially if you dont want an extractor in your eyeline over your island/peninsula, or a flush mounted ceiling extractor. A decent induction hob + the costs assassociated with buying and fitting a flush ceiling extractor will be at least as expensive as the Bora Pure. The fact it’s a beautiful looking bit of kit is just a bonus!! PS im now looking at my third Bora (due to a flood) and for me its still the best option. Currently trying to convince my wife we need the X Pure!

We had this exact issue. We opted for a pop up re-circulating extractor and a small external extractor on the wall above the cupboards. The pop up extractor doesn't do the job well and is noisy so we rarely use it. We rely on the small external extractor and just switch that on when we're cooking. We had our kitchen done over 3yrs ago so they may have improved the pop up extractors now.

Hmm, I might be wrong but my understanding is that a recirculating extractor doesn't get rid of steam, only grease and smells. It's confusing - I read lots about it and didn't find many definitive answers - but my understanding was that if we had a recirculating-only cooktop extractor, we would also benefit from a wall mounted expelair type extractor too, which we didn't want. Hence we went for an exhaust air model as we wanted ours to do the whole job. The bit where it ducts out has a system whereby it only opens when its extracting - and the ducting is several metres long so there's no sense of cold air coming up through the hob top, even on these recent very cold, windy and frosty days. I can only say that in my experience, if you want an island hob exhaust air model (as opposed to recirculating), there are costs which are additional to the cost of the hob itself - ie the ducting pipes and the work that goes into planning and executing the ducting under the floor and out to the open air. The position of the ducting has to be millimetre perfect at quite an early stage of the build so we had a lot of head scratching and very careful work to make sure that our kitchen plan and the position of the ducting were exactly aligned. We've paid our builder a day rate so there's definitely been an extra, if slightly undefinable, cost there. Perhaps in some cases it's very straightforward but in ours it wasn't, and as I said the ducting itself isn't cheap (around £100/m) - so in a direct comparison between a recirculating and a ducting version of the same cooktop (where the cooktops themselves cost exactly the same) the ducting one was a more expensive option for us, but one we're glad we went for. I should say we're in a 1930s house, which, although we're doing our best to make it energy efficient, is never going to be airtight like a passiv haus. So for us the benefit of getting rid of steam outweighs any potential small energy loss through the ducting to the outside. Of course everything I've said above may be rubbish... I'm just a girl trying to do a renovation with conflicting advice from all sides... :)

Many of the popup downdraft vents can separate the blower unit and install it somewhere other than the cabinet. Just read the installation instructions from any brand and it will tell you.
