We are about to start the first phase of renovating our 1950's house and are struggling with the exterior and window colours.
First phase is converting the garage into our new kitchen/family room with bifold windows at the back. So both garage doors will become windows. Work will be done above it as well at the same time so will replace that window at the same time.
Second phase will move the front entrance to the middle so the old front door will be a window. Then we will build a canopy porch in the centre over front door.
The front is north facing so a lot darker.
We are trying to choose a window colour and it's causing some debate. Hubby really not liking cream but would consider ivory. Most houses around have white windows but some saying would be too stark against the brick. Both of us like grey but wonder if would be too dark and also would get too hot at the back as south facing. We are going with aluminium windows. We know we won't be able to keep up maintaining timber.
Also wondering about rendering and or cladding as house has a large 'forehead' to break up the brick but not sure where to start. Or should we just give it a good clean! Budget isn't very big hence having to do in phases and can't change roof tiles etc.
Any thoughts or advice very much appreciated. Thank you in advance
Jonathan
