POLL: Wall-mounted TV above fireplace - yay or nay?
Comments (31)The picture shown shows us a example of a badly installed TV where no thought has been put into the interior design of that element in the room. I can almost guarantee a Technology Advisor was not involved in the project as they would have found a better solution for the finish. Sometime the area above the fireplace is the only space in the room the TV can go, and when its property thought out it can work....See MoreWall mounted TV or not??
Comments (22)Have a really level headed think about this: as a focal point it's the first thing you and everyone else is going to see the moment they walk into the room. (Mother-in-law springs to mind!) If your tv is your most valuable asset, then go ahead and make a feature of it! If not, then play about with alternatives: a picture, bookshelves, wall art, a couple of sconces either side of the fireplace. Having looked again at your photo, it is tricky. I always seek to hide my tv, preferably in a cupboard but that's because I'm not very technical. Perhaps a cubby hole chiselled into the wall over the fireplace, hidden by a picture!...See MoreTV cabinet under wall mounted TV
Comments (5)Hi David, A couple of questions: I assume that you're making a bespoke unit? Do you need access to the AV equipment for control, or are you going to use a separate control system (Control 4, Dusky, Magic Eye etc) so that the AV equipment can be behind a door? If you're going to use a separate control system, then you could get doors made that can cover up all the equipment and be made to look more symmetrical as they can be wider, possibly the whole width of the unit. Something a bit like this: One thing though, if you put doors onto a unit, please design in some ventilation, otherwise the equipment will cook...See MoreWhat to do with TV and speaker
Comments (3)Thank you so much for your suggestions, Sonia! I hadn't even thought about the cables. I agree that a TV unit would best but I just don't know where it would be able to go. The photo below shows how the current owners have arranged the living room. I don't know if a TV unit would fit and look OK next to the fire where the chair is and even if it does go there I don't know where our sofa could go. I was hoping to have a corner sofa. I suppose we could think about getting a corner unit and having it the other side of the fire. I'm just not sure if the window would affect the TV....See MoreAnglophilia
