Garden play area surface

I really like the play area and have been considering something similar. Could you tell me what material you used for the surface under the children's play equipment?

Hi Francesca, thank you. We dug out
the area slightly and covered it with a membrane, placed directly on top of the soil. The play equipment
was then placed on top and the surrounding area was covered with rubber chips. I

For children, I think you can’t beat grass. Once they are older you can then alter the garden to suit your needs.

it is difficult to make out and I can't read the text but I'm presuming the long strip on the left side is the hallway? it looks like it extends beyond the kitchen and dining room to an outside area? Perhaps end the hallway after the bathroom and put a door to the kitchen to widen it? then you could make the kitchen / dining open plan and have a patio door leading to outside, may give a wider area to work with. Cheaper than an extension.

This space has potential and you can work with what you have. Perhaps you could start by power-washing the decking and refreshing the colour, along with the log rolls. Try using Garden Shades. It’s a bit more pricey but gives good coverage and lasts. It also has a good range of colours. As previously suggested use artificial turf (middle tier where the yellow tractor is on pic). Keep the Box shrubs but reshape. You have what looks like a sculpture/water feature that is hidden - bring that out and make a feature of it on the decking. You could always get your joiner to cut out part of the decking and make a trap door then sink a sand pit below. Trellis part of your fencing and grow climbers - protect the young plants by burying plastic coated metal mesh in the soil and above the soil by a couple of feet (make sure any sharp edges are made safe for the kids). Buy large pots rather than small, plant them up and place on decking. We are surrounded by fields and wild rabbits invade our garden. They will eat anything if hungry but there are plants they will tend to avoid. Luckily they are mainly of the same pink/purple pallet. Try planting any of the following: Hellebore, Lambs Ear, Peony, Salvia, Baptista, Cat Mint, Foxgloves, Astilbe, Veronica, Iris, Lavender, Allium, Daffodils, Bee Balm, Daylily, Anise Hyssop - above all, keep that bunny well fed with what you want it to eat! If it were my house I would want to be able to spill light into the back of the original living room, I think the playroom should move as it is a barrier to the garden, I think the square space labeled living dining is either too small for both or too big as a dining space, I think the snug feels like it’s not a proper room without a window and for me the hall and cloaks space feels too big. And personally I think even if you create a proper play room the kids will want to be where ever you are so the only benefit of a playroom is being able to close the door on all the brightly coloured plastic when they have gone to bed- but while they are up it will likely invade your space- A big cupboard would serve the same function. If it were me I would either stick to this plan, merge the snug and playroom to have a decent living space and include lots of storage for toys. Alternatively consider a minor replay and having a smaller playroom elsewhere.
