Problem with bathroom towel rail

I have a fairly standard towel rail in my bathroom. But the bathroom is very narrow and the protruding horizontal valves at the bottom are annoying and get knocked. Is there a way to change the valves so that the are vertical or can anyone recommend a towel rail that is better designed?!

Also does anyone have any comments about whether an electric towel rail is better than one that's plumbed in?

Hi @Belz2000, I can only speak from my experience, typically radiator valves on towel warmer and rails go in horizontally, unless youre willing to replumb them and fit in a lead which will extend into the sides of the towel warmer / rail.

We have a number of towel warmers / rails some with protruding sides others with flush finishes, it is really the look and design that you are going for. Please feel free to have a look at our shop.

Now to answer your final question, electric towel warmers and rails are some of our bestsellers. They dont need plumbing, just wiring in and switching on and cost the same as running a lightbulb. They have a dry line cable element which is threaded through and the maintenance is next to nothing on this! At an ambient room temp of 20 deg they can reach 55 to 60 deg but do not radiate heat keep in mind!

You have a fairly small bathroom, which is why the tiles have been kept neutral and light. What's missing is some items that will pop. You could spring for a nicer sink arrangement. The cabinet around a pedestal was never a good look. Is there enough room between the bath and the opposite wall to turn the sink and move it towards the toilet to give you more worktop space and storage at the end of the bath? If not, keep the sink where it is, but use a vanity to look more fitted. The bath can be altered to provide more storage. Put up a hand towel bar or ring above the right hand side of the sink. Get rid of the toilet roll stand and hang the roll from a holder that matches the hand towel rail. Store extra rolls under the sink. Paint the long wall in one of the colours in the border tile, perhaps a richer beige. An interesting large mirror would visually widen the room. Alternatively, try a pale blue wall colour and richer mid blue towels mixed with brown towels. A light over the sink area would vastly improve that corner. The floor does nothing for the room. Why not choose a vinyl floor from Amtico or Karndean in a dark wood board effect? The tiles in your bathroom can be skimmed over by a professional fitter and the new floor laid directly on top. I see you have a back to the wall toilet and concealed cystern shown in your designers render. I'd just check on how this is going to be achieved. You need a cavity for a concealed cystern approx 200mm deep. Therefore, you have either a full height or half height 'false' wall in which to bury them. Taking your dimensions, i would build a full height false wall behind the shower of 1000mm wide on which to site the shower. I would then drop down to a half height wall for the sink and vanity. Also, consider your storage, do you want to keep cleaning products etc in there?, in which case have a better vanity unit. You could either have the room as is, but with an unconcealed cystern type toilet, like this. Or go with the half height wall, which instantly gives you a shelf, so that you can put up a wall cabinet of the same depth without overhanging the sink ( handy ). In other words, check on the type of fitting you want and can achieve with the designer.

dual fuel towel radiator and underfloor heating in bathroom?

Victoria, thank you. My husband is suggesting that we can achieve the same effect as the dual fuel in the summer by switching off all the thermostatic valves around the rest of the house and just keeping them on in the bathrooms, then keeping the central heating going for an hour or so each day over the summer. Do you do something similar or do you just not worry about damp towels in the summer? thank you

Can the 46cm gap/wall between bath and cupboard be removed? If so, move the bath up into that corner and then put the sink in the bottom right corner at the foot of the bath. Keep short heated towel rail below window and add another short one on the wall beside sink (at end of bath) - or add tall towel rail where sink is currently.
