Light colored flagstone for pool patio? Too hot in sun?

We have heard that flagstone gets very hot in the sun and is not recommended for around pools. We are looking at a lighter color (very light beige/off white vs a slate color). Any opinions?

I dunno... we had a pool in Texas that had flagstone edging, but concrete surrounding that. The concrete would get scalding hot... we all used to run across the concrete so we could stand on the flagstone instead so our feet didn't burn.

You should be able to get samples for whatever material you are considering. Place them in the sun in various colors so you can feel the difference. Depending on your location, sun exposure, whether any shade is available...all these factors make a difference. (Certain types of flagstone might have other issues like its reaction with chlorine water that may factor in). Good luck - there are tones of options!

Certain types of flagstone may, but a muticolor will look great and it won't be scalding. Here are a few photos of some jobs we did. They have tons of color but the colors are that beige/brown that go with a lot of things.

Voted for Floral but all of the styles are beautiful in different ways. I imagine floral style that comes with a cosy living room with lots of soft furnishings and a granite fireplace to gather around to.

Hi Nicky, my apologies I have only just seen your message. We went for cornforth white Farrow and Ball (which it definitely not white). The shutters are not back open yet but some of them will need to go back on because the large expanses of grey look very grey. The bits next to the white look less austere. The new white garage door with windows has made a big difference. I'd be careful with a very pale grey because if your windows are anything like mine you'll find that they are not actually that white after all....

I've gathered good ideas to take home, thank you so much ladies and gents. Lastly, my front doors (up and down) r very large and cover almost the entire wall with very little left to paint. That's where Carolinas green frames would come in handy I suppose otherwise it looks a bit boring to be honest. The frames are a burnt copper at the moment. Beautiful stonework on those pillars would also add some beauty. Final thoughts? thanks once again PS: never mind the garden i'm redoing that

Have you considered using travertine pavers on your pool deck? Travertine is natural stone. It does not retain the heat and it is not slippery. It comes in different sizes and colors. Prices are very competitive.

I have a very light colored flagstone,

and it is flesh-searing hot in the summer. I am in Las Vegas. Stones have been getting 130° to 140° this summer. Wish i had picked something else.

I have ivory/white Shellock cement pavers from Artistic Pavers. I'm in FL, so also hot. I'll get my temperature gun later and see what reading I get on my pool deck.
